Surgical-Orthodontic Correction of Transverse Maxillary Deficiency
Clinics in Plastic Surgery, 1989A conservative osteotomy of the zygomaticomaxillary buttress in combination with a rapid palatal expansion appliance is a dependable technique for the treatment of horizontal maxillary deficiency in adults. This procedure has been used successfully in 56 patients in our series, but 17 patients (30 percent) required a midpalatal osteotomy.

American Journal of Orthodontics, 1978Superior repositioning of the maxilla via maxillary ostectomy has proved to be useful method of treating patients with vertical maxillary excess. It is indicated primarily in patients with lip incompetence, excessive exposure of maxillary anterior teeth, long lower facial height, contour-deficient chin, and either Class I or Class II malocclusion.

American Journal of Orthodontics, 1980Nineteen postadolescent white woman with uncorrected Class I molar and/or canine occlusion were compared cephalometrically to thirteen postadolescent white women with skeletal apertognathia that was later corrected by a combination of surgical procedures, the common denominator being maxillary posterior superior repositioning.

The use of implants for orthodontic correction of an open bite
American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1995This case illustrates the integration of maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, prosthodontics and periodontics in the treatment of an adult male. A traumatic injury to the lower jaw was the stimulus for the patient to seek orthodontic correction of a severe malocclusion including crossbites and an anterior open bite.
