On the support of the measure of orthogonality of a class of orthogonal polynomials
Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2002It is a well-known fact that an orthonormal polynomial sequence \((p_n)_n\) satisfies a three-term recurrence relation. Let \(T\) be the tridiagonal operator associated to \((p_n)_n\) and defined by \[ Te_n=\alpha_n e_{n+1} \beta_n e_n+\alpha_{n-1}e_{n-1},\quad \alpha_n>0,\quad \] \((e_n)_n\) being an orthonormal basis of the Hilbert space.

Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on simple sets of orthogonal polynomials. These sets of polynomials arise in various ways, one of which is as the solutions of a class of differential equations. It has been shown that, under certain conditions, given any interval and a positive weight function on that interval, there exists a corresponding set ...

On Oscillation Properties and the Interval of Orthogonality of Orthogonal Polynomials
SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 1984The paper is mainly concerned with the ''true interval of orthogonality for a sequence of orthogonal polynomials, defined as the smallest closed interval containing the limit points of the set of zeros of these polynomials [cf. e.g. \textit{T. S. Chihara}, An introduction to orthogonal polynomials (1978; Zbl 0389.33008)].
