The representatives of this family of viruses are the three serologically unrelated types of influenza viruses A, B, and C, which are widely distributed in humans, other mammals and birds (Melnick, 1980). Type A is responsible for influenza pandemics and the regular epidemics. Type B has been found only in man so far and causes more localized epidemics.
