Persistent Zn2+ Influx‐Mediated Deacetylation of ANXA2 Regulates the “Zn2+‐Autophagic Flux” and Alleviates Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zinc transporter SLC39A14 sustains intracellular Zn2+ levels to activate SIRT3‑dependent ANXA2 deacetylation at K302. This modification weakens ANXA2‑mTOR binding and releases autophagic‑flux suppression in nucleus pulposus cells. Dysregulated Zn2+ homeostasis disrupts this axis to drive intervertebral disc degeneration.

Nascent Extracellular Matrix Converts Biomaterial Cues into Cell Fate Decisions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a tri‐directional interplay among cells, hydrogels, and their nascent extracellular matrix. Hydrogel norbornene modification alters CD44‐mediated cell–hydrogel interactions, which shape nascent matrix deposition, composition, and spatial organization.

Bioenergetic Materials for Tissue Regeneration: Modulating Metabolism to Promote Cellular Anabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bioenergetic materials (BEMs) modulate cellular metabolism to promote tissue regeneration. Their principal mechanisms of action include metabolic substrate supplementation, metabolic enzyme modulation, organelle transfer, electrical current regulation, redox homeostasis modulation, and oxygen tension modulation.

An Injectable and Self‐Reinforced Piezoelectric Hydrogel for Irregular Bone Defects Regeneration: Dynamic Epigenetic Regulation Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An injectable and self‐reinforcing RSF‐based piezoelectric hydrogel conforms to irregular bone defects and progressively strengthens in situ, overcoming the trade‐off between injectability and mechanical stability. Mechanical loading generates bioelectrical cues that promote P300‐mediated H3K9 acetylation and upregulate PTH1R expression, thereby ...

Versatile Microgel Platform for Intervertebral Disc Degeneration Therapy: Targeting Pericyte‐Mediated Fibrosis and Protecting Nucleus Pulposus Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The engineered MMS@TRP microgel enables targeted, acid‐responsive delivery of a miR‐21 inhibitor to pericytes. It effectively suppresses disc fibrosis by inhibiting TGF‐β signaling while protecting nucleus pulposus cells via sustained, antioxidant tannic acid release.

Current Standards of Monitoring Models in Healthcare Settings

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
AI/ML‐enabled medical devices are entering clinical practice faster than monitoring standards mature. This review highlights gaps in postmarket surveillance, limited use of predetermined change‐control plans, and the need for ongoing performance tracking, drift detection, explainability, and workflow‐aware governance to support safer, more reliable ...

Does orthopaedic resident efficiency improve with respect to decreased fluoroscopic times in tibial intramedullary nailing? A measure of an ACGME milestone

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Intramedullary nailing of tibial fractures is a surgical milestone from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our purpose was to evaluate if fluoroscopic time decreased with increasing resident experience and could
