A Neural Network Model for Intelligent Classification of Distal Radius Fractures Using Statistical Shape Model Extraction Features

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1513-1524, May 2025.
This study developed an automated distal radius fracture classification system based on statistical shape model (SSM) feature extraction and neural network classification. The method first extracts point cloud data from CT images, then extracts fracture features through registration, downsampling, and PCA dimensionality reduction, before inputting them

MRI‐Based Inter‐Vertebral Signal Concordance Index Is a Risk Factor of Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fracture: A Novel Index Inspired by Entropy

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Disorders in inter‐vertebral magnetic resonance signal intensity across lumbar segments are significantly associated with an increased risk of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures, leading to the development of the inter‐vertebral signal concordance index.

Natural progression of tarsal osteochondrosis in Standardbred pacers and trotters

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To determine the natural progression of tarsal osteochondrosis (OC) in a cohort of Standardbred foals and assess the impact of gait preference (trotting vs. pacing). Study design Longitudinal observational cohort study. Animals Client‐owned Standardbred foals (n = 148).

The modified Borg cycle strength test (mBCST): Feasibility and physiological response in people with COPD and healthy older adults

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Accurate prescription of supramaximal exercise requires exercise tests covering the intensity domain between maximal aerobic and peak power output. All‐out tests are commonly used for this objective but are considered challenging for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) due to the extreme physiological demand.

Early‐life Giardia infection and behavioural dysregulation in two dogs: A case‐based exploration of the gut microbiome–brain axis

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 2, May 2026.
Abstract This case report describes two dogs exhibiting severe behavioural problems, both diagnosed with early‐life giardiasis and raised in environments lacking adequate maternal care and socialisation. Both dogs experienced chronic gastrointestinal and dermatological issues, as well as prolonged early‐life stress, which likely contributed to ...

Endoscopic Removal of Superabsorbent Polymer Material Ingested From a Diaper: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT A 75‐year‐old woman with dementia was hospitalized for open reduction and internal fixation of a right femoral stem periprosthetic fracture. While under postoperative observation, she ingested a large amount of disposable diaper material containing a superabsorbent polymer. Emergency endoscopic removal was performed on the same day.

Nasal Carriage Rate of Biofilm Producing Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Its Associated Factors Among Health Care Workers at Hospital of Central Ethiopia

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Not susceptible to methicillin Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), is a potentially harmful bacteria that is resistant to the most important antimicrobial agents. Because MRSA is so resistant to many antibiotics, it can cause illnesses by forming biofilms.

Facilitating interprofessional collaboration for effective care transitions of a patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

open access: yesNutrition in Clinical Practice, Volume 41, Issue 2, Page 435-442, April 2026.
Abstract Transitions of care are the movement of a patient from one care setting or provider to another. Interprofessional collaboration is critical in ensuring patient safety and satisfactory health outcomes. Each time an interprofessional team transfers a patient, the team performs three important roles: representing the patient, providing patient ...
