Sinking Brain: Unusual Cause of Orthostatic Headache

open access: yesOnline Journal of Health & Allied Sciences, 2015
We report a case presenting with an orthostatic headache. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed typical pachymeningeal enhancement. CT myelography revealed leakage at the thoracic level. Patient was successfully treated by lumbar epidural blood

Paradoxical presentation of orthostatic headache associated with increased intracranial pressure in patients with cerebral venous thrombosis

open access: yesAnnals of Indian Academy of Neurology, 2013
Headache is the most common symptom of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT); however, the detailed underlying mechanisms and characteristics of headache in CVT have not been well described.

Caliber and type of needle are associated with the risk of spontaneously reported post-dural punction headache [PDF]

open access: yesHeadache Medicine, 2022
Introduction Post-dural punction headache (PDH) is defined as an orthostatic headache that develops within the first few days after performing a spinal tap and it is related to extravasation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) into the epidural space ...

Headache attributed to spontaneous intracranial hypotension and associated possible causes [PDF]

open access: yesHeadache Medicine, 2023
Bem Junior and coworkers published a very interesting and opportunely case report on spontaneous intracranial hypotension, associated with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) fistula in this issue.

Greater occipital nerve blockade using ultrasound guidance for the headache of spontaneous intracranial hypotension - A case report - [PDF]

open access: yesAnesthesia and Pain Medicine, 2022
Background Spontaneous intracranial hypotension occurs due to cerebrospinal fluid leakage from the spinal column, and orthostatic headache is the most common clinical presentation.

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension following spinal anesthesia initially misdiagnosed as postdural puncture headache

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Anaesthesia, 2022
Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is not rare, but its diagnosis remains challenging. SIH tends to be misdiagnosed as postdural puncture headache when orthostatic headache develops subsequent to spinal anesthesia because both have similar ...

Pneumocephalus in Patients With Orthostatic Headache [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Neurology, 2008
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak or shunt overdrainage is a well-known cause of orthostatic headaches and low CSF pressures. We report two cases of orthostatic headache with pneumocephalus on brain imaging. The orthostatic headache developed after drainage of spinal operation site and epidural block.

Magnetic Resonance-Guided Diagnosis of Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension in a Middle-Aged Woman

open access: yesCase Reports in Neurological Medicine, 2022
Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is a rare condition caused by a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. It is diagnosed by clinical features that include an orthostatic headache combined with imaging findings demonstrating intracranial hypotension and

Spontaneous intracranial hypotension: a case report in the context of differential diagnosis of chronic headaches

open access: yesHeadache Medicine, 2023
Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is a rare and debilitating condition caused by decreased intracranial pressure, which occurs more frequently in females.

An unexpected cause of orthostatic headache [PDF]

open access: yesNeurology, 2010
A 41-year-old woman underwent a left L5-S1 hemilaminectomy 7 months prior to the onset of an acute postural headache. MRI brain revealed intracranial hypotension. Two empiric blood patches were unsuccessful. CT myelogram showed a large pseudomeningocele at the surgical site not noted on MRI lumbar spine obtained 2 months postoperatively.
