Orthotospovirus disease epidemic: molecular characterization and incidence in peanut crops
Journal of Plant Pathology, 2020Argentina is one of the main peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) exporting countries with the major peanut-growing area located in the province of Cordoba. During the 2015–2016 growing season, severe outbreaks of an orthotospovirus-like disease occurred in a number of commercial peanut fields.

An attenuated mutant strain of melon yellow spot virus (MYSV), an Orthotospovirus, designated as SA08-8, was obtained from a pathogenic isolate, C95S, via high temperature treatment, single local lesion isolation, and serial mechanical inoculation. Under greenhouse conditions, the SA08-8 strain conferred the cross-protection against wild-type MYSV but ...

Resistance‑breaking tomato spotted wilt orthotospovirus isolates on resistant tomato in Serbia
2021The most effective management strategy for tomato spotted wilt orthotospovirus (TSWV) has been the use of resistant tomato (Sw-5b+) cultivars. Unfortunately, resistance-breaking isolates (RB) have emerged in many countries. In 2019, TSWV-like symptoms were observed in protected crops of a tomato (Sw-5b+) cultivar in two separate locations in Serbia. To

Predicting and Mapping Orthotospovirus Risk in Peanut Crops Using Biometeorological Data
European Journal of AgronomyViral diseases significantly impact agricultural production and food security globally, with orthotospovirus species causing substantial damage to various crops. In peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.), outbreaks of Groundnut ringspot orthotospovirus (GRSV) are particularly detrimental, resulting in significant yield losses. This study introduces an innovative

During the 2020 through 2024 growing seasons, pepper fruits exhibiting symptoms typically associated with spotted wilt were observed in the Arica y Parinacota region, in northern Chile. As this region is a key winter supplier of vegetables to southern Chile, the present study aimed to identify and characterize orthotospoviruses infecting local pepper ...
