Evaluation on root-deck fatigue of orthotropic steel bridge deck

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2013
Abstract Orthotropic steel decks are widely used in cable-supported bridges. The fatigue cracks in trough-deck welded joints have been detected in some bridges in China. In this paper, the finite element method (FEM) is applied to evaluate fatigue durability of the root-deck fatigue in the trough-deck welded joints over the diaphragms.

Fatigue of Orthotropic Steel Decks

Journal of the Structural Division, 1972
Experimental investigations reported on the fatigue behavior of orthotropic steel bridge decks have been rather limited. Results of fatigue tests on steel orthotropic decks with both conventional and biserrated trapezoidal ribs are presented. In the first phase, tests on two types of deck to rib plate welded connections unflanged and flanged ribs, and ...

Performance of Orthotropic Bridge Decks

Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities, 1991
The performance of orthotropic steel bridge decks in North America is investigated, and the performance of the wearing surface of these bridges is the focal point of the study. Concrete deck deterioration has become a national concern in the past few years.

Rational analysis of orthotropic bridge decks

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1974
Abstract New formulae are presented for the exact elastic analysis of a broad class of orthotropic bridge decks and panels in the form of ribbed plates. The formulae are directly applicable to decks that are simply supported at the ends and beam-supported at the sides and, through superposition, can be routinely extended to decks that are continuous ...

Renovation of Orthotropic Steel Bridge Decks

IABSE Reports, 2013

This paper is about the renovation of orthotropic steel deck bridges. It proposes a new solution for placing an overlay of prefabricated HSRC elements on the bridge deck to prevent fatigue damage.

Lightweight reinforcement systems for orthotropic bridge decks

IABSE Reports, 2013

Two systems for reinforcing orthotropic bridge deck (OBD) have been researched: the bonded steel plates system and the sandwich steel plates system. The main idea of these type of reinforcement is to stiffen the existing deck plate, thereby reducing the stresses at the fatigue sensitive details, and thus extending the fatigue life of the OBD ...

Static analysis of orthotropic curved bridge decks

Computers & Structures, 1980
Abstract The static analysis of orthotropic curved bridge decks with two radial edges simply supported and other two curved edges free are analysed, using a combination of Fourier series and finite difference technique. The governing fourth order partial differential equation of orthotropic plates in polar co-ordinates is first converted to an ...

Flexural Behaviour of Orthotropic Composite Bridge Deck

IABSE Reports, 2015

A new type of steel and concrete composite bridge deck comprised of an orthotropic steel plate with deep corrugation and a concrete slab was proposed in this paper. In the new composite deck, many parameters, such as concrete slab thickness, corrugated steel plate height and width, etc., will affect the section property.
