AbstractBACKGROUNDMortality caused by various pyrethroids, and neonicotinoids has been studied for stored‐product insects in the past, yet limited information exists on the sublethal effects they can induce to Oryzaephilus surinamensis. In the current study, the sublethal effects of deltamethrin, λ‐cyhalothrin, α‐cypermethrin, etofenprox, and the ...

Wolbachia causes cytoplasmic incompatibility but not male‐killing in a grain pest beetle
Abstract The endosymbiotic Wolbachia is one of the most common intracellular bacteria known in arthropods and nematodes. Its ability for reproductive manipulation can cause unequal inheritance to male and female offspring, allowing the manipulator to spread, but potentially also impact the evolutionary dynamics of infected hosts.

Four compounds identified from the volatiles of Chinese medicinal plant materials (CMPMs) are perceived by the peripheral olfactory system of S. paniceum adults and are able to individually elicit a positive chemotaxis in S. paniceum adults confirming the role of chemical cues in host‐plant detection and selection of this pest.

The eugenol derivative showed greater repellence and persistence against the stored grain insect pest Sitophilus oryzae than eugenol but with a less intense smell. Abstract BACKGROUND Essential oils (EOs) and their chemical components are often proposed as an alternative to synthetic pesticides for pest control of foodstuff insect pests. However, their
