Various Wavy Leading-Edge Protuberance on Oscillating Hydrofoil Power Performance [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2023
This paper is presented to compare various wavy leading-edge protuberances on oscillating hydrofoil performance and power efficiency. The unsteady turbulent 3D flow simulations were carried out by using the StarCCM+ software.

Comparing Models of Lateral Station-Keeping for Pitching Hydrofoils [PDF]

open access: yesBiomimetics, 2019
Fish must maneuver laterally to maintain their position in schools or near solid boundaries. Unsteady hydrodynamic models, such as the Theodorsen and Garrick models, predict forces on tethered oscillating hydrofoils aligned with the incoming flow.

Computational Investigation of Multiple Oscillating Hydrofoils and its Effect on Thrust Augmentation [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2021
Previous investigations of flapping hydrofoils for the purpose of thrust production have been limited to one or two in tandem. Tandem foils were found to have superior performance because the performance of the aft foil was augmented by the vortices shed

Hydrodynamic performance analysis of tower wake vortex tidal current energy capture system with swing oscillating hydrofoil

open access: yesXibei Gongye Daxue Xuebao, 2023
In order to effectively utilize the tidal current energy in offshore wind farms, a swing oscillating hydrofoil system for tidal current energy capture is proposed.

A Simplified Mathematical Model of Pumped Hydrofoils

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
This paper presents a simplified mathematical model of a pumped hydrofoil (PH)—a surfboard elevated above water surface and connected to a tandem of hydrofoils by a strut. The PH is operated by a rider who stands on the surfboard and produces swinging up-

Tip Vortex Cavitation on an Oscillating Hydrofoil [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fluids Engineering, 1997
This paper discusses tests conducted in the hydrodynamic tunnel of the University of Grenoble on a 3D oscillating hydrofoil. Visualization of unsteady tip vortex cavitation indicates a strong influence of the water nuclei content. The investigation was focused on the influence of the oscillation frequency on tip vortex cavitation inception.

Cross-Flow Tidal Turbines with Highly Flexible Blades—Experimental Flow Field Investigations at Strong Fluid–Structure Interactions

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Oscillating hydrofoils were installed in a water tunnel as a surrogate model for a hydrokinetic cross-flow tidal turbine, enabling the study of the effect of flexible blades on the performance of those devices with high ecological potential.

Role of Shape and Kinematics in the Hydrodynamics of a Fish-like Oscillating Hydrofoil

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
In the present two-dimensional numerical study, we investigate the roles of geometrical parameters of a hydrofoil (shape/curvature of the leading and trailing edges and thickness) and kinematic parameters (phase difference between heave and pitch (ϕ)) on

Drawbacks of phase change models in simulating flashing of steam with a subsaturation downstream boundary condition

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 101, Issue 10, Page 6003-6016, October 2023., 2023
Drawbacks in phase change models in simulating flashing of steam with a subsaturation downstream boundary condition. Abstract The development of phase change models applicable to a wide range of temperatures, pressures, and mass flow rates is primarily limited by the metastable or partially stable behaviour of the fluid. Due to this, the fluid does not
