Unsteady Gaseous Diffusion Associated with a Fully Cavitating Oscillating Flat-Plate Hydrofoil

SNAME 22nd American Towing Tank Conference, 1989
Although the emphasis of this paper is on gaseous diffusion into a full cavity behind an oscillating flat-plate hydrofoil, the unsteady diffusion theory given below applies also to the limiting case of "steady" supercavitating flow. The entire unbounded flow is assumed to be turbulent and a turbulent diffusivity is employed which enables one to make ...

Numerical research on hydrodynamic characteristics of fish-like flexible oscillating hydrofoil

2018 IEEE 8th International Conference on Underwater System Technology: Theory and Applications (USYS), 2018
Hydrofoil is a common structure of underwater machinery and has good hydrodynamic performance. At present, most of the studies on oscillating hydrofoils are on rigid hydrofoils, but few on hydrodynamics of flexible oscillating hydrofoils. In this paper, the kinetic model of flexible hydrofoil is established by imitating tuna swimming.

Experimental and Numerical Study for Hydrodynamic Characteristics of an Oscillating Hydrofoil

Journal of Hydrodynamics, 2008
The present article reports the experimental Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) investigation and the corresponding numerical simulation results about the water flow over the oscillating hydrofoil and its unsteady dynamic characters. The experimental study focuses on the effect of mean angles of attack.

NUMERICAL STUDY ON OSCILLATING HYDROFOILS FOR ENERGY EXTRACTION

Simulation results reveal that the fully prescribed system achieves a total efficiency of 38.6%, with heaving motion accounting for a heaving efficiency of 57.55% and a total average power output of 139.53 W. In contrast, the semi-passive model generates significant unsteady vertical motion—approximately three times larger in displacement—yet fails to ...

EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF NON-STEADY FORCES ON HYDROFOILS OSCILLATING IN HEAVE

1969
Abstract : Measurements of the unsteady forces on heaving delta wing hydrofoils hydrofoils having apex angles of 15 and 30 deg were carried out in fully wetted flow, planing at a free surface, and with forced ventilation. The fully wetted dynamic measurements were in good agreement with the results of lifting surface theory at small angles of attack. A

Unsteady nonlinear free surface flows around an oscillating Hydrofoil

1999
A model is under development to study the hydrodynamics of a flapping foil 1i beneath water waves. Cavitation effects and large separation phenomena are ruled out but nonlinearities due to moving and free boundaries are fully retained. In this framework, the flow field, sketched in fig.

The unsteady forces on slender delta wing hydrofoils oscillating in heave

1968
The investigations described herein are both experimental and theoretical. An experimental technique is described by which the models tested could be oscillated sinusoidally in heave. The apparatus used to gather the unsteady lift, drag and pitching moment data is also described.
