Shear induced normal stress differences in aqueous foams
A finite simple shear deformation of an elastic solid induces unequal normal stresses. This nonlinear phenomenon, known as the Poynting effect, is governed by a universal relation between shear strain and first normal stresses difference, valid for non ...

MagPiezo enables wireless activation of endogenous Piezo1 channels without genetic modification using 19 nm magnetic nanoparticles and low‐intensity magnetic fields. It generates torque forces at the piconewton scale to trigger mechanotransduction in endothelial cells, standing as a novel platform to interrogate and manipulate Piezo1 activity in vitro.

Performance tests for the NASA Ames Research Center 20 cm x 40 cm oscillating flow wind tunnel [PDF]
An evaluation is presented of initial tests conducted to assess the performance of the NASA Ames 20 cm x 40 cm oscillating flow wind tunnel. The features of the tunnel are described and two aspects of tunnel operation are discussed.

Mechanically Stable and Tunable Photoactivated Peptide‐Based Hydrogels for Soft Tissue Adhesion
A collagen‐like peptide hydrogel platform is developed using supramolecular self‐assembly and light‐triggered crosslinking. It creates mechanically stable, tunable hydrogels with cytocompatibility and biodegradability, making them potential soft tissue adhesives.

INFLUENCE OF THE NORMAL FORCE ON THE SLIDING FRICTION UNDER ULTRASONIC OSCILLATIONS
The paper is devoted to an experimental investigation of the sliding friction force between a rapidly oscillating sample and a rotating steel plate. The sliding friction force is studied experimentally as a function of the oscillating amplitude, the ...

Supersonic axial-flow fan flutter [PDF]
Lane's (1957) analytical formulation of the unsteady pressure distribution on an oscillating two-dimensional flat plate cascade in supersonic axial flow has been developed into a computer code. This unsteady aerodynamic code has shown good agreement with

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their

Tissue Engineered Human Elastic Cartilage From Primary Auricular Chondrocytes for Ear Reconstruction
Despite over three decades of research, no tissue‐engineered solution for auricular reconstruction in microtia patients has reached clinical translation. The key challenge lies in generating functional elastic cartilage ex vivo. Here, we integrate synergistic cell‐biomaterial strategies to engineer auricular grafts with mechanical and histological ...

Finite element analysis of periodic transonic flow problems [PDF]
Flow about an oscillating thin airfoil in a transonic stream was considered. It was assumed that the flow field can be decomposed into a mean flow plus a periodic perturbation. On the surface of the airfoil the usual Neumman conditions are imposed.

Cuttlebone‐inspired metamaterials exploit a septum‐wall architecture to achieve excellent mechanical and functional properties. This review classifies existing designs into direct biomimetic, honeycomb‐type, and strut‐type architectures, summarizes governing design principles, and presents a decoupled design framework for interpreting multiphysical ...
