Dissipation in oscillating water columns

The Oscillating Water Column (OWC), regarded as the first generation Wave Energy Converter (WEC), is one of the most effective technologies for extraction of ocean wave energy. Most OWCs are designed to resonate at incoming wave frequencies, so that efficiency of the device would be the maximum.

Wave-power absorption by an oscillating water column

Physica Scripta, 1991
The wave-power absorption by an oscillating water column with rectangular geometry is studied within linear theory. The column is assumed to be placed in an infinitely wide, partially reflecting wall.

Wave Interaction with Oscillating Bodies and Water Columns

1986
A linear hydrodynamical theory for a system of oscillating bodies and oscillating water columns (OWCs) is described and illustrated by considering a system of one OWC and one body oscillating in a single mode only. A theoretical relationship between added mass and the energy of the near field motion is generalised to include OWCs. Numerical results are

Nonlinear behaviour of interacting oscillating water columns

2016
A preliminary study is made of the dynamics of Oscillating Water Columns (OWCs), in which the amplitude of internal fluid displacement is nonlinear. The OWC is a well-studied class of ocean wave-energy converters. When the machine's natural frequency is appropriately tuned, it will resonate at the prevailing ocean-swell frequency.

Mechanical Model for Oscillating Water Column with Compressibility

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1989
Certain aspects of modeling of the oscillating water column (OWC) wave‐power device are examined, with particular reference to its behavior at representative off‐resonant frequencies. Although comparison is made with a particular study incorporating the use of compressible flow equations for the air column, this work uses a simple mechanical analog ...

Environmental impact evaluation of an oscillating water column

Renewable Energies, Environment and Power Quality Journal
This study evaluates the environmental impacts of an oscillating water column (OWC) system used for renewable energy generation, employing Conesa’s methodology. By conducting a comprehensive assessment, various environmental parameters, such as water quality and marine-coastal ecosystems, are thoroughly analyzed.
