A major portion of the global energy demand was likely to be fulfilled by an extensive supply of renewable power. Renewable energy outputs, on the other hand, are changeable due to the dynamic nature of their sources. The integration of these variable sources of power into current power grids is proving difficult for electrical power system operators ...

Grid integration aspects of wave energy—Overview and perspectives
Abstract The sustained development of wave energy in the past two decades makes it one of the most promising renewable energy resources to be added to the diverse mixture of supply systems. The inherent difficulty of grid integration of wave energy involves various aspects such as suitable control of power converters and power conditioning processes ...

Theoretical investigation on an oscillating buoy WEC‐floating breakwater integrated system
Abstract Based on the concept of cost sharing, an oscillating buoy wave energy converter‐ floating breakwater integrated system is proposed, in which the surge or pitch motion of the front‐pontoon equipped with Power Take‐off (PTO) system is allowed. In this study, the methods of eigenfunction matching and variables separation are applied to establish ...

Abstract The oscillating‐water‐column (OWC) spar‐buoy is a type of wave energy converter that may exhibit undesirable large roll and pitch amplitudes caused by a dynamic instability induced by parametric resonance. The occurrence of this phenomenon not only reduces the power extraction but significantly increases the structural loads on the buoy, the ...

Experimental investigation of a triple pontoon wave energy converter and breakwater hybrid system
Abstract In this paper, a novel hybrid wave energy converter (WEC)‐floating breakwater system consisting of three floating pontoons with power take‐off (PTO) modules is developed to extract wave energy from heave motion and attenuate waves to protect the coast.

Hydrodynamic Investigation on a Land-Fixed OWC Wave Energy Device under Irregular Waves
The hydrodynamic response of a land-based oscillating water column (OWC) wave energy converter under various irregular wave conditions is investigated numerically. Based on the potential flow theory, a two-dimensional fully nonlinear numerical wave flume

Performance of a plate‐wave energy converter integrated in a floating breakwater
Abstract A plate‐wave energy converter (pWEC) moored in front of a floating stationary breakwater is considered. The pWEC is composed of a submerged flexible plate with piezoelectric layers bonded to both faces of it. Hence the elastic motion of the plate excited by water waves can be transformed into useful electricity due to the piezoelectric effect.
