Results in Mathematics, 2005
Given \(A(z)\) entire, it is well known that all solutions of \[ y^{(k)}+A(z)y=0 \] are entire functions. The main result in the present paper is the following theorem: Suppose \(\rho(A)

The Sturmian Theory of Oscillations
The Mathematical Gazette, 1954The Sturmian theory is concerned with the number of zeros that a solution of a linear differential equation of the second order may have in a given interval of the independent variable. As usually presented ( e.g.

Bistable Oscillator Theory Revisited
International Applied Mechanics, 2002The authors discuss dynamics of a bistable oscillator. Boundaries of motion manifolds are constructed which correspond to three different types of regular trajectories.

Theory of the Relativistic Oscillator
American Journal of Physics, 1957This is a study of the motions of a particle subject to the restoring force exerted by a linear spring, under the assumption that the mass depends upon the speed according to the formula given by the theory of special relativity.

Theory of Plasma Oscillations. B. Excitation and Damping of Oscillations
Physical Review, 1949The theory of electron oscillations of an unbounded plasma is extended to take into account the effects of collisions and special groups of particles having well-defined ranges of velocities. It is found that as a result of collisions a wave tends to be damped in a time of the order of the mean time between collisions.

The theory of prey-predator oscillations
Theoretical Population Biology, 1976Abstract A general prey-predator model is formulated and the conditions for the occurrence of limit cycles are discussed. The effects of random environmental fluctuations on a stable equilibrium and on a limit cycle are investigated. Data on the 4- and 10-yr cycles are analysed by computing the periodogram and the results are compared with the ...

Theory of a quantum anharmonic oscillator
Physical Review A, 1988The time evolution of a quantum single-quartic anharmonic oscillator is considered. The study is carried on in operational form by use of the raising and lowering operators of the oscillator. The equation of motion is solved by application of a new integration method based on iteration techniques, and the rigorous solutions that describe the time ...

An Example in the Theory of Nonlinear Oscillations
SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1969We shall show that condition (4), in conjunction with all the conditions of the theorem except (2), is not sufficient. Whether it is necessary is apparently still open. However, results in [4] show that Wong's conjecture is true in the case where f(x) is also nondecreasing (or bracketed between two nondecreasing functions that satisfy (4)). An analysis

The Matrix Theory of Torsional Oscillations
Journal of Applied Physics, 1942The general case of vibration of a shaft with several rotating masses is discussed. The analysis is reduced to a simple matrix multiplication of second-order matrices and the natural frequencies of symmetrical systems are discussed. The connection of the matrix method and the well-known Holzer method of computing the natural frequencies of torsional ...
