Continual decision‐making dynamics across biological organisms

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Decision‐making is a central function of adaptive behaviour in biological agents. However, strategies for adaptive decision‐making can vary substantially across species. Here, we aim to extend the comparative scope of decision‐making analyses to phylogenetically diverse organisms.

Redox‐Dependent Luminescence in a Pentavalent Uranyl Complex

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Redox‐dependent luminescence in a molecular pentavalent uranyl complex supported by a pyridine dipyrrolide pincer ligand is presented. Electrochemical and chemical reduction of the uranyl(VI) species provides a stable uranyl(V) complex that emits blue light from a high‐energy excited state. The anti‐Kasha emission is credited to the presence of “nested”

Ultra‐High‐Efficiency On‐Chip CO2 Conversion by Nanosecond Self‐Pulsing Micro‐Plasma Devices

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
A micro‐plasma chip with sub‐10‐μm electrode gaps is introduced for efficient CO2‐to‐CO conversion. The device self‐converts a DC power supply into nanosecond pulses, producing field‐emission electrons that vibrationally excite CO2, driving dissociation via the ladder‐climbing mechanism. A scaled‐up chip array achieves 30% single‐pass conversion and 50%

Photochemistry of Aromatic N‐Oxides in Water Probed by Time‐Resolved X‐ray Absorption Spectroscopy

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved XAS at the nitrogen and oxygen K‐edges is applied to the photorearrangement of two N‐oxides in water. Pyridine N‐oxide rapidly forms the oxaziridine isomer. Pyridazine N‐oxide undergoes ring opening to the diazo compound, without any evidence of intermediates.

Insights Into Symmetry and Substitution Patterns Governing Singlet–Triplet Energy Gap in the Chemical Space of Azaphenalenes

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Molecules that violate Hund's rule by exhibiting an inverted singlet–triplet gap (STG), where the first excited singlet (S1${\rm S}_1$) lies below the triplet (T1${\rm T}_1$), are rare but hold great promise as efficient fifth‐generation light emitters.

Design Principles for Next Generation of Small Organic Molecules for Photodynamics Therapy Revealed by Nonadiabatic Molecular Dynamics

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Molecular design reshapes the landscape of excited‐state relaxation. Nonadiabatic dynamics reveal how electronic structure guides population flow between competing pathways beyond static energetic arguments. ABSTRACT Nitrobenzochalcogenadiazole derivatives are emerging candidates for photodynamic therapy (PDT), yet the precise mechanisms governing ...
