Continuous Hydrogenation of Alkynol in a Continuous Oscillatory Baffled Reactor

Organic Process Research & Development, 2021
In this paper, we report, for the first time, that a multiphase catalytic hydrogenation of 3-butyn-2-ol over Pd/Al2O3 catalyst has successfully been running in a continuous oscillatory baffled reac...

Design, performance characterization and applications of continuous oscillatory baffled reactors

Chemical Engineering and Processing - Process Intensification, 2022
Abstract The continuous oscillatory baffled reactor (OBR) is a particular type of tubular reactor, which has drawn increasing attention over the past few decades due to the benefits it provides in terms of intensification of heat and mass transfer, as well as equipment compactness compared with stirred tank reactors.

Polymer product engineering utilising oscillatory baffled reactors

Powder Technology, 2002
The Oscillatory baffled reactor (OBR) can be used to produce particles with controlled size and morphology, in batch or continuous flow. This is due to the effect of the superimposed oscillations that radially mixes fluid but still allows plug-flow (or close to plug flow) behaviour in a continuous system.

Heterogeneous catalysis in an oscillatory baffled flow reactor

Catalysis Science & Technology, 2013
The first demonstration of heterogeneous catalysis within an oscillatory baffled flow reactor (OBR) is reported, exemplified by the solid acid catalysed esterification of organic acids, an important prototypical reaction for fine chemicals and biofuel synthesis.

Butylation of Phenylacetonitrile in an Oscillatory Baffled Reactor

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2005
In this paper, we report our investigation of a liquid−liquid phase-transfer catalysis (PTC) of the butylation of phenylacetonitrile in a novel oscillatory baffled reactor. We evaluated the reaction kinetics by looking at the order of the reaction and examined the effect of operating conditions as well as the PTC catalysts on the conversion.

Solids flow pattern in continuous oscillatory baffled reactor

Chemical Engineering and Processing - Process Intensification, 2019
Abstract Transition from batch to continuous processing is an attractive alternative for the production of pharmaceutical, fine and bio chemicals. In a number of such industrial reactions or separations, a solid phase is present either as a reactant, product or catalyst. Instead of conventional continuous reactors, the utilization of oscillatory flow

Droplet size distribution in a continuous oscillatory baffled reactor

Chemical Engineering Science, 2001
We report our experimental investigation of droplet size distribution (DSD) in a continuous oscillatory baffled reactor (COBR). The droplet experiments were carried out over a range of oscillation amplitudes and frequencies and for three different net flow Reynolds numbers in the absence of surfactants and coalescence inhibitors.

Modelling of droplet breakage probabilities in an oscillatory baffled reactor

Chemical Engineering Science, 2004
Abstract The breakage of droplets dispersed in a continuous aqueous phase determines the performance of many mixing devices and reactors that rely on effective contact between two phases, e.g. emulsion mills, liquid–liquid extraction columns, stirred tank reactors and Oscillatory Baffled Reactors.

Kinetics of Cellulose Hydrolysis in an Oscillatory Baffled Reactor

American Journal of Biomass and Bioenergy, 2016
Enzymatic hydrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose in an oscillatory baffled reactor (OBR) and a parallel stirred tank (STR) were studied. In the proposed mechanistic model, saccharification of the intractable, crystalline portion of cellulose, E*Sx is important.

Rapid Production of Biodiesel in Mesoscale Oscillatory Baffled Reactors

Chemical Engineering & Technology, 2012
AbstractContinuous alkali‐catalyzed transesterification of rapeseed oil with methanol was carried out in three mesoreactor designs. The induction time decreased with oscillatory Reynolds number for all three reactors. Stable steady states were achieved within induction times of 1.5, 2.5, and 4.0 residence times for the integral, wire wool, and helical ...
