The mixing and axial transport of smoke in oscillatory tube flows

Annals of Biomedical Engineering, 1984
To gain a better insight on the mechanisms of transport in high-frequency ventilation, we examined the transport of smoke in a straight tube, a model of the trachea. A smoke bolus was injected into a ventilator, and the movement of the smoke along the tube was monitored by a laser-photomultiplier system.

Mixing efficiency of sediment and momentum above rippled beds under oscillatory flows

Continental Shelf Research, 2015
Abstract While the nature of the suspended load above steep, wave-induced, sand ripples is of practical importance, it also raises intriguing questions about the relative mixing efficiencies of sediment and momentum above the seabed. It has been widely accepted that the mixing efficiency of sediment is substantially greater than that of momentum. But,

Further developments in the prediction of oscillatory aerodynamics in mixed transonic flow

13th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1975
This paper presents improvements made to the oscillatory transonic aerodynamic kernel function method given in AIAA Paper No. 74-359. The improved method is fully developed for flows with continuously varying local Mach number and oscillating normal shocks.

Hydrodynamics and mixing in continuous oscillatory flow reactors—Part I: Effect of baffle geometry

Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification, 2016
Abstract Time-dependent laminar flow in a continuous oscillatory baffled reactor has been studied using Computational Fluid Dynamics. The effect of baffle geometry on pressure drop, energy dissipation as well as the instantaneous flow and shear strain rate fields has been investigated for five different geometries, namely single orifice baffles, disc-

An oscillatory kernel function method for lifting surfaces in mixed transonic flow

15th Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 1974
A study was conducted on the use of combined subsonic and supersonic linear theory to obtain economical and yet realistic solutions to unsteady transonic flow problems. With some modification, existing linear theory methods were combined into a single computer program.

Chemical and MHD Effects on Mixed Oscillatory Flow Dynamics: A Neural Network Study

WSEAS TRANSACTIONS ON HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER
This paper investigates in detail the thermal and chemical effects of an unstable magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed oscillatory flow. The temperature, velocity, and concentration profiles can be investigated in detail by transforming the governing equations into a dimensionless system.

Near-bed vertical flux formulas for mixed sediment transport in oscillatory sheet flow

Physics of Fluids
Near-bed vertical sediment flux is essential for quantifying the intensity of vertical sediment exchange and serves as a key bottom boundary condition for sediment numerical models. This study develops an analytical framework to formulate the vertical flux for mixed sediment transport under oscillatory sheet flow and effectively addresses the existing ...
