Membrane Permeability Threshold for Osmotic Power Plant Efficiency

open access: yesJournal of Contemporary Urban Affairs, 2017
In a context of ever-growing electricity consumption and need for less polluting sources of energy, salinity gradient power (SGP) based on osmosis is a promising technology. Salinity difference between two solutions separated by a semi-permeable membrane

Review and research on osmotic suction of saturated saline soils

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao, 2020
In order to accurately calculate the osmotic suction in saturated saline soils under different salt contents, salt types and temperature conditions, firstly, a brief review is made of the research results of osmotic suction from the test and theoretical ...

A Leaf Disc Assay for Evaluating the Response of Tea (Camellia sinensis) to PEG-Induced Osmotic Stress and Protective Effects of Azoxystrobin against Drought

open access: yesPlants, 2021
Tea (Camellia sinensis), a globally cultivated beverage crop, is sensitive to drought, which can have an adverse effect on the yield and quality of tea. Azoxystrobin (AZ) is one kind of fungicide considered as an agent to relieve damage caused by stress.

Charge Regulation and pH Effects on Thermo-Osmotic Conversion

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
Thermo-osmotic energy conversion using waste heat is one of the approaches to harvesting sustainable energy and reducing associated environmental impacts simultaneously. In principle, ions transport through a charged nanopore membrane under the effect of

Film-Shaped Self-Powered Electro-Osmotic Micropump Array

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
This paper reports a new concept of a film-shaped micropump array for biomedical perfusion. The detailed concept, design, fabrication process, and performance evaluation using prototypes are described. In this micropump array, an open circuit potential (OCP) is generated by a planar biofuel cell (BFC), which in turn generates electro-osmotic flows ...

Advancing osmotic power generation by covalent organic framework monolayer

open access: yesNature Nanotechnology, 2022
Osmotic power, also known as 'blue energy', is produced by mixing solutions of different salt concentrations, and represents a vast, sustainable and clean energy source. The efficiency of harvesting osmotic power is primarily determined by the transmembrane performance, which is in turn dependent on ion conductivity and selectivity towards positive or ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

Modelling and analysis of central metabolism operating regulatory interactions in salt stress conditions in a L-carnitine overproducing E. coli strain.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Based on experimental data from E. coli cultures, we have devised a mathematical model in the GMA-power law formalism that describes the central and L-carnitine metabolism in and between two steady states, non-osmotic and hyperosmotic (0.3 M NaCl). A key
