OSNR Requirements for Self-Homodyne Coherent Systems

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2010
The optical signal-to-noise ratio requirements for a self-homodyne (SH) coherent system are investigated theoretically and experimentally and compared to intradyne (ID) detection. The beneficial effect of bandpass filtering of the copropagating local oscillator is demonstrated and it is shown that the performance limit for SH and ID systems becomes ...

Dependence of coherent crosstalk penalty on the OSNR of the signal

Optical Fiber Communication Conference. Technical Digest Postconference Edition. Trends in Optics and Photonics Vol.37 (IEEE Cat. No. 00CH37079), 2002
The in-band crosstalk induced penalty mixed with different signal quality (optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR), extinction ratio) is investigated. Also, tolerant characteristics of the in-band crosstalk induced penalty to the signal quality at optimum decision level is discussed.

Effects of Parameters on Nash Games with OSNR Target

Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Performance Evaluation Methodologies and Tools, 2008
This paper studies efficiency in a Nash game with optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) target. Instead of looking from the view point of degree of efficiency ("price of anarchy"), we investigate the effects of parameters in individual cost functions. We show that the aggregate cost function in the game-theoretic formulation is not automatically convex ...

OSNR Based Quality Estimation in Optical Network

TENCON 2018 - 2018 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2018
In the last few decades, optical technology has become much advance to transmit higher traffic over a long distance. In spite of this, physical layer impairments (PLIs) poses a great concern over the optical communication to meet the demand of next generation technology.

Performance measurement and analysis in WDM Networks effects on OSNR

2017 4th International Conference on Electrical and Electronic Engineering (ICEEE), 2017
In this paper, 400 Gbps Tests - which take place in ITU's Roadmap of 2018 and have been never tried on a live network, according to literature review- are applied to Turk Telekom Live Network, within a distance of 1060/2120 kilometers (between Istanbul and Ankara, round-trip/between Istanbul - Ankara, twice round-trip) and changes on Optical Signal-to ...

Multiple-Channel OSNR Monitoring With a Single Detector

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2004
We report a multichannel optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring method using the integrated planar lightwave circuit and fast Fourier transform techniques with a single detector. The OSNR of four-channel wavelength-division-multiplexing signals can be monitored for a dynamic range of 20 dB with an accuracy of /spl plusmn/1 dB.

OSNR monitoring technique using polarization-nulling method

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2001
We report on the simple technique for monitoring the optical signal-to-noise ratios (OSNRs) of wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) signals. This technique, based on the polarization-nulling method, was implemented simply by using a rotating quarter-wave plate and rotating linear polarizer.

Novel technique for simultaneous channel and OSNR monitoring

OFC 2003 Optical Fiber Communications Conference, 2003., 2003
A compact module including a polarization sensitive EO modulator and a LED sensor is utilized for OSNR monitoring and channel recognition. The modulator acts as a polarizer and provides signal dithering to improve the detection sensitivity.

A system performance approach to OSNR optimization in optical networks

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2010
This paper studies a constrained optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) optimization problem in optical networks from the perspective of system performance. A system optimization problem is formulated with the objective of achieving an OSNR target for each channel while satisfying the total power constraint.

Measurement of OSNR in the presence of partially polarized ASE

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2005
We investigate the effect of partially polarized amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) on the measurement and interpretation of the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) using the polarization-nulling method. OSNR measurement is widely used to estimate bit-error rate (BER) in transparent photonic networks, but we find that significant errors in OSNR and ...
