Dual Polarization Interferometric In-Band OSNR Measurement

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2012
An in-band optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitoring technique based on a Michelson fiber interferometer and a linear polarizer is presented in this letter. OSNR values of up to 25±0.5 dB were measured for 10-G nonreturn-to-zero-differential phase-OOK (NRZ-OOK) and NRZ-differential phase-shift keyed (NRZ-DPSK) signals without prior knowledge of ...

OSNR Requirements for Self-Homodyne Coherent Systems

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2010
The optical signal-to-noise ratio requirements for a self-homodyne (SH) coherent system are investigated theoretically and experimentally and compared to intradyne (ID) detection. The beneficial effect of bandpass filtering of the copropagating local oscillator is demonstrated and it is shown that the performance limit for SH and ID systems becomes ...

OSNR Based Quality Estimation in Optical Network

TENCON 2018 - 2018 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2018
In the last few decades, optical technology has become much advance to transmit higher traffic over a long distance. In spite of this, physical layer impairments (PLIs) poses a great concern over the optical communication to meet the demand of next generation technology.

3 kW high OSNR 1030 nm single-mode monolithic fiber amplifier with a 180 pm linewidth.

Optics Letters, 2020
In this Letter, the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) effect of a 1030 nm fiber laser is studied theoretically and, based on the theoretical results, a 3 kW high optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) 1030 nm fiber amplifier with a 180 pm linewidth and ...

OSNR monitoring technique using polarization-nulling method

Optical Fiber Communication Conference. Technical Digest Postconference Edition. Trends in Optics and Photonics Vol.37 (IEEE Cat. No. 00CH37079), 2002
We report a simple technique based on the polarization-nulling method to monitor the optical signal-to-noise ratios (OSNR's) of WDM signals automatically. The results show that the OSNR's could be monitored with accuracy better than 0.6 dB.

Extracting OSNR From Low-Resolution Optical Channel Monitors

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2007
Optical channel monitors (OCMs) that use scanning filters need to resolve the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise floor between channels in order to determine optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR). We show how regularized least-squares can extract accurate OSNR values from raw spectra when the ASE floor is not visible because of insufficient ...

Accuracy Enhancement of Moments-Based OSNR Monitoring in QAM Coherent Optical Communication

IEEE Communications Letters, 2020
Optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) is an important parameter in coherent optical communication systems to monitor the quality of the received signal and the transmission-link fault.

An OSNR monitor for optical packet switched networks

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2006
Optical packet switched networks bring about new challenges to the research in optical performance monitoring. We present the first experimental demonstration of an optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) monitor capable of direct OSNR monitoring on the packet basis.

Switchable 0.612-nm-Spaced Dual-Wavelength Fiber Laser With Sub-kHz Linewidth, Ultra-High OSNR, Ultra-Low RIN, and Orthogonal Polarization Outputs

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2019
A high-performance switchable 0.612-nm-spaced dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. For the first time, we combine a compound-cavity structure (CCS) and an enhanced polarization hole burning (PHB ...
