Novel OSNR Measurement Techniques for Coherent-Detection Systems
Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2018We discuss in-service OSNR measurement options independent of coherent receiver metrics. We review a spectral analysis technique for discriminating ASE when fiber nonlinearities contribute “Gaussian-like” noise and evaluate its performance in practical network scenarios.

High-Sensitivity In-Band OSNR Monitoring on a Silicon Photonics Platform
Advanced Photonics 2013, 2013We demonstrate high-sensitivity in-band OSNR monitoring on a SOI platform. The integrated system, including a ring resonator and an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer, enables OSNR measurements from 8 dB to 28 dB with 0.3 dB accuracy.

Digital In-band OSNR Estimation for Polarization-Multiplexed Optical Transmission
2013 18th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference held jointly with 2013 International Conference on Photonics in Switching, 2013We propose fast digital in-band optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) estimation technique using pilot sequence for polarization-multiplexed signals. Its estimation accuracy is better than 0.2 dB in simulation. And, its feasibility is experimentally demonstrated.

Polarization-nulling method for monitoring OSNR in WDM network
2006 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2006This paper reviews the current status of the OSNR monitoring techniques based on the polarization-nulling method. The results show that the polarization-nulling method can be used for monitoring OSNR in a dynamic WDM network and enhance its operation and maintenance.

A Noncooperative Game Approach to OSNR Optimization in Optical Networks
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 2006We consider a game theory framework for power control in optical networks. Channel optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) optimization is formulated as an m-player noncooperative game, based on a general network OSNR model. Conditions for existence and uniqueness of the game equilibrium solution are given.
