Network administrators need to be aware of the state of their network. While link- state routing protocols like OSPF have the required information, there was no easy way to present it to the administrator. To solve this problem, we developed Birdvisu, a program to visualise the topology as seen by the BIRD Internet Routing Daemon.

When a link is being prepared to be taken out of service, the traffic needs to be diverted from both ends of the link. Increasing the metric to the highest value on one side of the link is not sufficient to divert the traffic flowing in the other direction.

OSPF flooding process optimization
