Multidirectional chromosome painting substantiates the occurrence of extensive genomic reshuffling within Accipitriformes. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Previous cross-species painting studies with probes from chicken (Gallus gallus) chromosomes 1-10 and a paint pool of nineteen microchromosomes have revealed that the drastic karyotypic reorganization in Accipitridae is due to extensive ...

Habitat use and reproductive success of ospreys in central interior California
The osprey (Pandion halieatus) declined globally in the mid-late 20th century due primarily to pesticide contamination that reduced reproduction. The species has recovered through much of its range, and its range in California has increased.

Expectation-Maximization Binary Clustering for Behavioural Annotation [PDF]
We present a variant of the well sounded Expectation-Maximization Clustering algorithm that is constrained to generate partitions of the input space into high and low values.

The emergence of cancer is a multistep process, with passage through a so-called precancerous stage as part of the development. Biopsies of suspicious lesions often reveal cells that are altered or abnormal, and those anomalous cells, while often still ...

This work investigates the wear resistance and nitriding behavior of PBF‐LB/M‐processed Osprey HWTS 50, a lean hot work tool steel. Three heat treatment conditions are compared to conventional wrought H13, H11, and PBF‐LB/M 18Ni300. The study highlights HWTS 50's enhanced nitrogen diffusion, deeper nitriding hardness depth, and comparable or improved ...

Drones are used to monitor bird nesting sites at less accessible locations, such as on cliffs, human infrastructure, or within the tree canopy. While there are a growing number of studies documenting avian behavioral responses to various drones, there is a continued need to monitor taxa‐specific responses to different drone models. We explored both the

Geometric calibration of Colour and Stereo Surface Imaging System of ESA's Trace Gas Orbiter [PDF]
There are many geometric calibration methods for "standard" cameras. These methods, however, cannot be used for the calibration of telescopes with large focal lengths and complex off-axis optics.

Habitat imprinting in breeding territory selection of a long‐lived bird of prey
A unique long‐term dataset has allowed this study of an important habitat selection mechanism, habitat imprinting, in a species which is typically extremely challenging to study. It gives us better understanding of the role of early experience in selection of breeding sites in long‐lived species with high breeding site fidelity.

Multimodel climate and variability of the stratosphere [PDF]
The stratospheric climate and variability from simulations of sixteen chemistryclimate models is evaluated. On average the polar night jet is well reproduced though its variability is less well reproduced with a large spread between models.
