Titanium Implants – A Comparison of a Swedish and an Ohio Firm [PDF]
Two firms in the health care market are studied in a case study of the introduction of two almost identical innovations. The two firms, both in the titanium implant business have been chosen so that they match when it comes to origin, technology and ...

Plasma‐immersion‐ion‐implantation (PIII) is applied to increase the bond strength between 3D printed Polyether–ether–ketone (PEEK) or Poly–ether–ketone (PEK) and dental composite resin. A predictive model is presented that demonstrates the relative effect of plasma and mechanical interlocking because of roughness. The bond strength achieved with plasma

A macrophage model of osseointegration
Abstract The mechanisms of peri-implant de novo bone formation and contact osteogenesis are still largely unknown. In 1984 Donath et al. showed that macrophages were the first cells to colonize a titanium implant. Recently it was shown that that there are inflammatory (M1) and healing macrophages (M2), the latter of which can secrete BMP

Osseointegration for elderly patients
Successful osseointegration promises a virtual panacea for the edentulous predicament. However, the impact of this technique on specific age groups is far from clear. In an attempt to determine the efficacy and effectiveness of implant-supported prostheses in geriatric patients, the treatment outcomes of elderly patients already included in ongoing ...

Dental implantology and fibrous dysplasia: A 6‐year follow‐up case report and a literature review
Abstract Background and Aim It is unclear if fibrous dysplasia (FD) represents a contraindication for implant borne rehabilitation, and only two successful cases are reported in the literature with a 4–2‐year follow‐up. The present paper discusses this issue reporting a full‐arch maxillary rehabilitation with a >5‐year follow‐up.

A slow and longer‐term delivery of silver ions for sustained antimicrobial activity is developed by incorporating silver ions within the 2D nanocapillaries of GO laminates. The controlled release of silver ions from these laminates has provided sustained antimicrobial activity for more than 10 days in a biomimetic environment.

405 nm light exposure of osteoblasts and inactivation of bacterial isolates from arthroplasty patients : potential for new disinfection applications? [PDF]
Infection rates after arthroplasty surgery are between 1-4 %, rising significantly after revision procedures. To reduce the associated costs of treating these infections, and the patients' post-operative discomfort and trauma, a new preventative method ...
