A hypothesis on ergodicity and the signal‐to‐noise paradox
Atmospheric Science Letters, Volume 25, Issue 11, November 2024.This letter suggests ergodicity concerns may affect the signal‐to‐noise paradox in ensemble weather forecasting. For the ensemble mean to be our best forecast of observations, the ergodic theorem must hold, as this approach interprets the mean as the most likely phase‐space trajectory.

Influences on North‐Atlantic summer climate from the El Niño‐Southern Oscillation
Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, Volume 150, Issue 764, Page 4498-4510, October 2024 Part A.An upper‐level teleconnection between the El Niño‐Southern Oscillation and the summer North Atlantic‐European sector is confirmed in reanalysis but is shown to be not present in seasonal prediction models. Significant contributions to regional summer geopotential heights are found from both the previous and current phases of ENSO.
