On the Osteometry of the Facial and the Nasal Height

open access: yesJournal of the Anthropological Society of Nippon, 1958
We measured the facial and the nasal heights by two methods, namely from Supraorbitale (new) and from Nasion (usual old method), on 635 crania of several races and made clear the difference between the results obtained. Our results are shown in Table 2-5, and our conclusions are as follows:(1) The difference between the heights by two methods, namely ...

On the boundaries of osteometry applied to fish

open access: yesArchaeofauna, 1996

A mechanistic approach for the calculation of intervertebral mobility in mammals based on vertebrae osteometry

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, 2020
AbstractIn this paper, we develop and validate an osteometry‐based mechanistic approach to calculation of available range of motion (aROM) in presacral intervertebral joints in sagittal bending (SB), lateral bending (LB), and axial rotation (AR). Our basic assumption was the existence of a mechanistic interrelation between the geometry of zygapophysial

Computed Tomographic Osteometry of the Asian Lumbar Spine

open access: yesJournal of Spinal Disorders, 1994
The computed tomography (CT) scans of 100 adult Chinese patients 18-60 years of age were studied to provide osteometric data on the Asian lumbar spine. The study population was composed of 63 men and 37 women. A total of 29 parameters were measured from each vertebral level. All the data were statistically analyzed for differences between men and women

Osteometry of Lumbar Vertebrae of Asiatic Lion (Panthera leo)

open access: yesTHE INDIAN JOURNAL OF VETERINARY SCIENCES AND BIOTECHNOLOGY, 2017
The anatomy of lumbar vertebrae of Asiatic lion was studied. There were seven lumbar vertebrae. The length of the body increased from the first to the sixth vertebrae, whereas the width increased up to the last vertebra. The ventral ridge was absent in first and last vertebrae.

Bovinos en estructuras funerarias del Neolítico Medio del noreste de la Península Ibérica. La necrópolis de la Bòbila Madurell como caso de estudio sobre la gestión del vacuno [PDF]

open access: yesMunibe Antropologia-Arkeologia, 2021
En la ganadería neolítica de la Península Ibérica el bovino doméstico (Bos taurus) fue el segundo taxón en importancia, después de los ovicaprinos. Algunos yacimientos constituyen una excepción y presentan una mayor abundancia de bovino.

Beyond Genes: Metabolomic Evidence Indicates Potential Species-Level Differentiation in European Wild Rabbits. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Exp Zool A Ecol Integr Physiol
ABSTRACT The European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) plays a key ecological role in Mediterranean ecosystems, yet its populations are declining. Two subspecies, O. c. algirus and O. c. cuniculus, are present in the Iberian Peninsula and exhibit genetic, phenotypic, and ecological differences.

Morphometric Evaluation of the Craniovertebral Junction Using Computed Tomography: A Sex-Based Analysis of 500 Adults. [PDF]

open access: yesBiomed Res Int
Background and Objective The anatomy of the craniovertebral junction (CVJ) varies considerably across populations, yet comprehensive Turkish‐specific morphometric data remain limited. We aim to establish normative CVJ measurements in Turkish males and females using computed tomography (CT). Study Design Retrospective morphological study.

Population-specific validation of long bone linear discriminant analysis against morphoscopic pelvic methods for sex estimation in contemporary Italian skeletal remains. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Forensic Sci
Abstract Sex estimation represents a fundamental step in forensic identification protocols, traditionally relying on morphoscopic pelvic assessment. However, the increasing integration of machine learning approaches and population‐specific validation requirements necessitate comprehensive evaluation of alternative methodologies. This study provides the
