Preliminary findings on the use of osteopathic manipulative treatment by osteopathic physicians

open access: yesJournal of Osteopathic Medicine, 1996
Abstract The literature suggests that the extent to which osteopathic physicians actually use osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) and the factors that predict the use of OMT remain virtually unexplored. A mailed survey of practicing osteopathic physicians was used to query respondents about their use of OMT and about the effects of ...

Understanding extracellular vesicle biology, isolation, and characterization: The theory of EV‐erything

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Extracellular vesicles (EVs), especially exosomes, are nanoparticles increasingly recognized as key regulators of intercellular communication in both physiological and pathological aspects. Despite rapid progress, inconsistencies in nomenclature, isolation, and characterization continue to restrict translational advancement.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment for the Management of Adjacent Segment Pathology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Adjacent segment pathology is an adverse effect of spinal fusion that precipitates accelerated spinal degenerative changes at vertebral segments contiguous with the fused vertebrae. The accelerated degeneration related to ASP can be challenging to manage,

Modulation of pain by affective touch: effects of childhood trauma, depression, chronic pain, and spinal segment

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Patients with fibromyalgia and no‐pain controls completed questionnaire ratings of chronic pain, childhood trauma, anxiety and depression. During the first session a conditioned pain modulation task was administered, with heat pain applied via thermode and cold pain via cold water‐bath.

Electrocardiogram Abnormality Classification From Summary Statistics With Patient‐Level Validation and Process‐Focused Evaluation

open access: yesAnnals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology, Volume 31, Issue 5, September 2026.
Patient‐level validation in ECG abnormality classification demonstrates that detailed evaluation (including monotonic decline patterns, learning convergence, and precision‐recall calibration across partitions) is vital for clinical deployment. Aggregate accuracy metrics alone mask critical generalization instabilities, highlighting the need for process‐

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment Decreases Hospital Stay and Healthcare Cost in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

open access: yesMedicines, 2022
Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is used in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Evidence suggests that OMT can reduce both patients’ recovery time and the financial cost of their acute medical treatment and rehabilitation.

Effect of osteopathic manipulative treatment on circulating cytokines: A pilot study in healthy adults

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 4, August 2026.
A one‐time osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) session changed circulating cytokines in healthy adults. While currently covered by most insurers to treat acute somatic dysfunction, this study provides preliminary evidence that OMT may be useful in mitigating inflammatory cytokines without overt somatic dysfunction.
