Osteoporosis and its influence on periodontal status of postmenopausal women

open access: yesActa Médica del Centro, 2016
A transversal analytical study on osteoporosis and its influence on periodontal status of postmenopausal women was conducted, the sample consisted of 50 postmenopausal women divided into two groups: 20 of them with osteoporosis (group 1) and 30 without ...

Pharmacological intervention: Challenges and promising outcomes for fat loss and preservation of lean body mass in the treatment of overweight and type 2 diabetes

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 2, Page 803-816, February 2026.
Abstract Treatment with GLP‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1 RAs) is effective in reducing body weight in individuals with overweight and type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, measurements indicate that a considerable portion of the weight loss derives from fat‐free mass (FFM), including skeletal muscle, which may compromise metabolic health and physical function.

Effect of metformin on inflammation and bone damage in a rat model of medication‐related osteonecrosis of the jaw

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, Volume 134, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract This study investigated how chronic metformin administration modulates the cellular profile and inflammatory markers in a zoledronic acid‐based rat model of medication‐related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Male Wistar rats were allocated to different treatments: (i) naïve, (ii) MRONJ (zoledronic acid, 0.2 mg/kg, i.v.

Integrating Transcriptomics and Gut Microbiota Analysis Reveals the Anti‐Osteoporotic Mechanisms of Wine and Oil Co‐Processed Epimedium

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 2, 31 January 2026.
Firstly, we determined the content of the components in the co‐products of Epimedium wine and oil. Secondly, the clinical indications of the co‐products of Epimedium wine and oil were determined by in vitro cell experiments. Finally, the in vivo animal model was used for experimental verification.

Harnessing Advances in Bone Tissue Engineering for Design of Bone‐on‐Chip Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 4, 26 January 2026.
Bone‐on‐chip (BoC) systems demonstrate significant potential as next‐generation models to study human (patho)physiology and evaluate new therapies. However, progress toward functional, human‐like BoCs has been hindered by the structural and functional complexity of bone. This perspective discusses how insights from bone tissue engineering can guide BoC

Estimation of level of knowledge in young adult women about the postmenopausal osteoporosis

open access: yesJournal of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences
Background: Postmenopausal osteoporosis and its complications cause significant morbidity and mortality, in elderly women. Having knowledge about bone health in young adult women is crucial to gain good bone strength and maintain it at an optimal level ...

A Pseudo‐Mytilus Edulis Foot Protein‐Based Hydrogel Adhesive with Osteo‐Vascular‐Immune Coupling Effects for Osteoporotic Bone‐Implant Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 6, 27 January 2026.
Inspired by mussel proteins, YDC‐Gel‐Zn is a smart bone glue designed for osteoporotic implants. It adheres strongly to both metal implants and bone for initial fixation. In osteoporosis's inflammatory environment, it sequentially releases zinc ions and therapeutic peptides: the zinc modulates immune cells to reduce inflammation, while the peptides ...

Steap4 Promotes Senile Osteoporosis via Fe2+‐ROS/C/EBPβ Feedback‐Driven Ferroptosis and Adipogenesis in Senescent BMSCs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 5, 27 January 2026.
Senescent bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) exhibit increased sensitivity to ferroptosis, a phenomenon associated with Steap4, a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate hydrogen (NADPH)‐dependent metalloreductase that reduces Fe3+ to Fe2+.

Identification and Mechanisms of Osteocyte Subsets Involved in the Pathological Progression of Osteoporosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 5, 27 January 2026.
Osteocyte heterogeneity in bone remains poorly understood. This study identifies six distinct osteocyte subsets in mice, revealing a key subpopulation (BHR‐Ocys) that drives bone loss in osteoporosis. BHR‐Ocys promote osteoclast‐mediated resorption via a novel Sema5a‐Plxna1 signaling axis.
