From armadillos to sloths: Patterns and variations in xenarthran coronary anatomy

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Species of the superorder Xenarthra play a vital ecological role in the Neotropics. Despite their evolutionary significance, anatomical studies on their coronary circulation remain scarce. This study investigated the coronary anatomy of 82 hearts from nine Xenarthra species across the Dasypodidae, Myrmecophagidae, and Bradypodidae.

Morphometric and topographic study of coronary ostia

open access: yesArquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia, 2003
OBJECTIVE: To investigate the morphometric and topographic aspects of coronary ostia, correlating them with the aortic leaflets. METHODS: Fifty-one hearts with the great vessels attached were analyzed in this study.

In vivo dose measurement using TLDs and MOSFET dosimeters for cardiac radiosurgery. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In vivo measurements were made of the dose delivered to animal models in an effort to develop a method for treating cardiac arrhythmia using radiation. This treatment would replace RF energy (currently used to create cardiac scar) with ionizing radiation.

Radiologic, Histologic and Scanning Electron Microscopic Characterization of the Peritoneal Reflection in Crohn's Disease

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The peritoneal reflection bridges visceral and parietal peritoneum and lacks adjoining or underlying organs. As such it provides an opportunity to perform a focussed examination of the peritoneum in Crohn's disease. The aim of this study was to exploit this anatomical property and conduct a multilayered, focussed examination of the peritoneal ...

Evaluation of the pulmonary vein ostia during the cardiac cycle using electrocardiography-gated cardiac computed tomography in cats

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2022
Several studies in humans have provided detailed descriptions of the anatomy of the pulmonary veins (PVs) and their ostia for the implementation of thoracic interventions, such as radiofrequency ablation, for patients with atrial fibrillation.

Principal component analysis of atrial fibrillation: Inclusion of posterior ECG leads does not improve correlation with left atrial activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background Lead V? is routinely analysed due to its large amplitude AF waveform. V? correlates strongly with right atrial activity but only moderately with left atrial activity. Posterior lead V? correlates strongest with left atrial activity.

Mechanistic Insights Into How Rewiring and Bifurcation Angle Affect DK‐Crush Stent Deployment

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Double kissing crush (DKC) is a preferred two‐stent technique for complex coronary bifurcation lesions. Proximal cell rewiring is routinely recommended to reduce technical failure, and DKC is considered effective across various bifurcation angles. However, it remains unclear whether this standard approach is optimal for all patients.

Novel Oronasal Drainage for Long COVID: Proposed Mechanisms—Case Report

open access: yesViruses
Long COVID, potentially emerging post COVID-19 infection, involves extreme health challenges. Based on current literature in the field, we propose a novel approach to Long COVID treatment based on epipharyngeal abrasive therapy targeting ostia of the ...
