Consideration of reciprocal mixing in HF OTH radar design
7th International Conference on High Frequency Radio Systems and Techniques, 1997The purpose of this paper is to examine reciprocal mixing in the context of HF OTH radar, and to prescribe acceptable limits on phase noise spectral density which determine that the receiving system remains externally noise limited. The paper firstly describes the manner in which the fundamental sources of phase noise within a typical HF radar ...

Design and implementation of a fully automated OTH radar tracking system
Proceedings International Radar Conference, 2002Detection and tracking systems for OTH radars typically require manual oversight because of clutter, noise, and propagation conditions. The authors have designed and constructed a tracking system that eliminates this intervention. The system is based on a two-stage approach that detects low-SNR tracks in the raw data without amplitude-based peak ...

HF-OTH Skywave Radar for Missile Detection
2008In this paper missile detection capabilities of an HF-OTH skywave will be analysed and assessed. Specifically we focus on a challenging scenarios that is the detection of ballistic missiles in their boost phase for early activation of defence systems. Missile Radar Cross Section (RCS) is calculated during target flight taking into account of frequency ...

Shipborne OTH radar two-side confusing problem study by antenna design
Proceedings of 2012 5th Global Symposium on Millimeter-Waves, 2012Shipborne high frequency ground wave OTH (over the horizon) radar is a kind of new system radar to sea detection. It can detect the ship targets and low altitude or very low altitude flying target. As the huge difference between physical environment around the ships and the environment near the coast, the changing platform of the OTH(over the horizon ...

The removal of transients from OTH radar signals via wavelets
Proceedings of 1994 28th Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2002In skywave radar the removal of transients from the signal is a major objective since they reduce the radar's capability to detect and track targets. It is desirable to extract the transient components from the data without removing any other information. Current techniques only exploit the time localization of such signals.

Issues with Orthogonal Waveform Use in MIMO HF OTH Radars
2011Current operational HF over-the-horizon (OTH) radars are now accepted as effective and comparatively low-cost wide-area surveillance sensors. They are routinely used to provide air and surface situational awareness over vast regions of land and sea. The technology in, and performance of, these current generation radars is impressive, however, there are

OTH Radar Surveillance at WARF During the LRAPP Church Opal Exercise
1976Abstract : In September 1975, the Wide Aperture Research Facility (WARF) Over- the-Horizon Radar (OTHR) performed shipping surveillance as part of the Long- Range Acoustic Propagation Project (LRAPP) exercise Church Opal. The purpose of the OTHR experiment was to help determine the density and distribution of ships in three Pacific Ocean areas, each 5 ...
