Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Małe miasto jako przedmiot badań etnologicznych w Polsce. Stan i perspektywy

open access: yesStudia Etnologiczne i Antropologiczne, 2011
A small town is almost completely skipped in studies of Polish ethnologists. The main scientific output in this field constitute works by sociologists, demographers, geographers, historians and urbanists.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Generation of a specific marker to discriminate Gacillus anthracis from other bacteria of the Bacillus cereus group.

open access: yesJournal of microbiology and biotechnology, 2008
Bacillus anthracis is a soil pathogen capable of causing anthrax that is closely related to several environmental species, including B. cereus, B. mycoides, and B. thuringiensis. DNA homology studies showed that B. anthracis, B. cereus, B. mycoides, and B. thuringiensis are closely related, with a high sequence homology.

What Can Children Learn from a Screen? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
With children media and children’s television viewing constantly increasing, people often ask what children are actually learning from the screen. This study looked at two and a half to three year old children, to see how they form generalizations ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

What is Probable Cause, and Why Should We Care?: The Costs, Benefits, and Meaning of Individualized Suspicion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Taslitz defines probable cause as having four components: one quantitative, one qualitative, one temporal, and one moral. He focuses on the last of these components.

Towards a bulk description of higher spin SYK

open access: yes, 2018
We consider on the bulk side extensions of the Sachdev--Ye--Kitaev (SYK) model to Yang--Mills and higher spins. To this end we study generalizations of the Jackiw--Teitelboim (JT) model in the BF formulation. Our main goal is to obtain generalizations of
