Lagrangian Averaging, Nonlinear Waves, and Shock Regularization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this thesis, we explore various models for the flow of a compressible fluid as well as model equations for shock formation, one of the main features of compressible fluid flows.

Bayesian inverse problems for functions and applications to fluid mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper we establish a mathematical framework for a range of inverse problems for functions, given a finite set of noisy observations. The problems are hence underdetermined and are often ill-posed.

Large deviations of the KPZ equation, Markov duality and SPDE limits of the vertex models

open access: yes, 2021
The Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation is a stochastic PDE describing various objects in statistical mechanics such as random interface growth, directed polymers, interacting particle systems.

Multiscale Modeling and Computation of 3D Incompressible Turbulent Flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In the first part, we present a mathematical derivation of a closure relating the Reynolds stress to the mean strain rate for incompressible turbulent flows.

Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics And Engineering

open access: yes, 2022
Krylov subspace recycling is a powerful tool when solving a long series of large, sparse linear systems that change only slowly over time. In PDE constrained shape optimization, these series appear naturally, as typically hundreds or thousands of ...

Multipatch Isogeometric Analysis for electrophysiology: Simulation in a human heart [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
In the framework of cardiac electrophysiology for the human heart, we apply multipatch NURBS-based Isogeometric Analysis for the space discretization of the Monodomain model.

Adaptive Observer for Coupled Wave PDE and Infinite ODE With Sampled Data and Unknown Input: Application to Brain Hemodynamics Estimation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

Design and analysis of propeller blade geometry using the PDE method [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
This thesis aims to incorporate geometric and functional design of surfaces using a method known as the PDE method. In particular, it will be demonstrated how the PDE method can be extended to represent an existing marine propeller geometry ...
