β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

Mechanism of Salvia miltiorrhiza in the treatment of periodontitis: integrative analyses via network pharmacology, molecular dynamics, and cellular assays

open access: yesBMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies
Background Periodontitis is the primary cause of tooth loss in adults and is associated with cardiovascular disorders and type 2 diabetes, etc., significantly impairing patients’ quality of life. Salvia miltiorrhiza(S.

Stemming the Global Trade in Falsified and Substandard Medicines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Drug safety and quality is an essential assumption of clinical medicine, but there is growing concern that this assumption is not always correct. Poor manufacturing and deliberate fraud occasionally compromises the drug supply in the United States, and ...

Nicotinamide N‐methyltransferase promotes drug resistance in lung cancer, as revealed by nascent proteomic profiling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
AZD9291 has shown promise in targeted cancer therapy but is limited by resistance. In this study, we employed metabolic labeling and LC–MS/MS to profile time‐resolved nascent protein perturbations, allowing dynamic tracking of drug‐responsive proteins. We demonstrated that increased NNMT expression is associated with drug resistance, highlighting NNMT ...

Mapping evidence of spinal manipulation therapy for headaches in South Africa: a scoping review of grey literature

open access: yesBMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies
Objective Spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) has been demonstrated to be an effective management approach for primary headaches; however, current literature often excludes data from South Africa (SA). The use of grey literature provides a viable mechanism

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Leonurine (SCM-198) exerts protective effects on pancreatic β-cells in type 1 diabetes by modulating the Bax/Bcl-2/Caspase-3 signaling pathway

open access: yesBMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies
Background Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a disease marked by insulin deficiency and hyperglycemia, resulting from the destruction of pancreatic β-cells. The progression of T1DM is significantly influenced by oxidative stress and apoptosis.
