The application of HBF in small aperture OTHR

2015 8th International Congress on Image and Signal Processing (CISP), 2015
Due to the decrease of azimuth resolution and array gain, the performance of small aperture over the horizon radar (OTHR) is not as good as the conventional OTHR. Therefore, it is necessary to find a new method to improve array performance of small aperture OTHR to satisfy the requirements of target detection.

OTHR multipath tracking using the bernoulli filter

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2014
A multipath target tracking and recognition algorithm is proposed for an over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) tracking system in the presence of detection uncertainty and clutter. This algorithm, multipath Bernoulli filter (MPBF), uses a generalization of the Bernoulli filter for joint detection and tracking of a single target.

An EM Algorithm for Multipath State Estimation in OTHR Target Tracking

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2014
Multi-path tracks of a single target exist in skywave over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) surveillance, due to the availability of multiple signal propagation paths through the ionosphere. Different from the traditional multipath data association and estimation methods for OTHR target tracking, a novel scheme for joint multipath data association and state ...

Method to Suppress Transient Interference in the Skywave OTHR

IGARSS 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2019
Skywave over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) plays an important role in the out-of-sight surveillance. But the operational performance usually degrades due to transient interferences. To excise the transient interference, most existing methods cannot get rid of the step of data interpolation, which is always computationally expensive.

Delay compensation of stretching signal in OTHR

6th International Conference on Signal Processing, 2002., 2003
In the stretch processing system of linear FM (chirp modulation), the time delay of the return is converted into frequency. The frequency and time delay are proportional to the target range. Each intermediate frequency (IF) pulse occupies a different time interval, indicating the variation in time delay as a function of range.

A wideband technique for micro-ranging in OTHR

2008 IEEE Radar Conference, 2008
A method for utilizing wideband transmissions (>100 kHz) in OTHR is proposed. The technique involves the aggregation of multiple narrow band signals into a wideband composite through digital synthesis. The multi-channel signal is received digitally and after normal correlation and Doppler processing is recombined using Whitehead-Malekpsilas phase ...

Over-The-Horizon Radar (OTHR) In Canada

2018 19th International Radar Symposium (IRS), 2018
OTHRs have recently been making a comeback in Canada, as the need for accurate long-range tracking becomes more important, and less-expensive, ground based radars are once again being considered for more effective long-range surveillance of Canadian airspace.

OTHR Multipath Tracking with Correlated Virtual Ionospheric Heights

2018 21st International Conference on Information Fusion (FUSION), 2018
This paper proposes a new virtual ionospheric height model for over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) target tracking. Considering the spatial correlation of different ionosphere site, the virtual ionospheric heights are modeled by a Gaussian Markov random field (GMRF). The priors of the GMRF model can be learned from the historical measurements from ionosondes.

Forward-based Receiver Augmentation for OTHR

2007 IEEE Radar Conference, 2007
An experimental multi-static HF radar is described that augments conventional over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) by placing multiple forward-based receiver systems within line-of-sight of targets of interest. With sufficient and appropriately located forward-based receiver sites the radar can generate target tracks that are independent of the uncertain ...

Fractal Features and Detection of Meteor Interference in OTHR

2006 CIE International Conference on Radar, 2006
Backscatter signal from OTHR receiver may contain strong noise and interference background, among which the meteor echo is a typical and strong impulsive interference. This meteor echo may inject transient but great power into the receiver, arise the noise floor in the range-doppler map and decrease SNR. So it must be suppressed before target tracking.
