Targeting Microglial CD49a Inhibits Neuroinflammation and Demonstrates Therapeutic Potential for Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that integrin receptor CD49a (Itga1 gene) is significantly upregulated in hyperactivated microglia and microglia‐specific knockdown of Itga1 rescues neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in a chronic Parkinson's disease (PD) model by targeting PGAM5‐mediated mitochondrial dysfunction and NLRP3 activation. Targeted inhibition of CD49a

The association of extreme environmental heat with incidence and outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in British Columbia: A time series analysis

open access: yesResuscitation Plus
Background: The impact of extreme heat on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) incidence and outcomes is under-studied. We investigated OHCA incidence and outcomes over increasing temperatures.

Targeting Lactate and Lactylation in Cancer Metabolism and Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lactate, once deemed a metabolic waste, emerges as a central regulator of cancer progression. This review elucidates how lactate and its epigenetic derivative, protein lactylation, orchestrate tumor metabolism, immune suppression, and therapeutic resistance.

Underlying Cause of Out‐of‐Hospital Cardiac Arrests in Japan in Survivors Versus Nonsurvivors

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background The causes underlying out‐of‐hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) are rarely investigated. This study aimed to investigate causes of OHCA in CRITICAL (Comprehensive Registry of In‐Hospital Intensive Care for OHCA Survival), a multicenter OHCA ...

Mechanical chest-compression devices: current and future roles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Purpose of review: It is recognised that the quality of CPR is an important predictor of outcome from cardiac arrest yet studies consistently demonstrate that the quality of CPR performed in real life is frequently sub-optimal.

Targeting DNA‐LNPs to Endothelial Cells Improves Expression Magnitude, Duration, and Specificity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Attaching antibodies against endothelial cell surface proteins redirects the delivery and expression of DNA‐lipid nanoparticles to organs of interest. Our targeted nanoparticles enable organ‐selective DNA expression in the endothelium of the lungs, brain, or spleen, providing a therapeutic platform for dozens of endothelial‐centric diseases.

Epidemiology and outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests at sport and recreational events in England, 2015–2022

open access: yesResuscitation Plus
Background: Previous studies suggest favourable outcomes for patients experiencing exercise-related out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). This study aimed to examine the characteristics and outcomes of OHCAs occurring at sports and recreational events ...
