Neo-Hookean fiber composites undergoing finite out-of-plane shear deformations [PDF]
The response of a neo-Hookean fiber composite undergoing finite out-of-plane shear deformation is examined. To this end an explicit close form solution for the out-of-plane shear response of a cylindrical composite element is introduced. We find that the

AbstractThis is the first part of a two-part article on a hyperelastic extended Kirchhoff–Love shell model with out-of-plane normal stress. We present the derivation of the new model, with focus on the mechanics of the out-of-plane deformation. Accounting for the out-of-plane normal stress distribution in the out-of-plane direction affects the accuracy

Out-of-plane deformability and its coupling with electrostatics in biomembranes
Cell membranes are quasi-bidimensional soft systems formed by multipoles in an ordered array that can be polarized in an electric field. Consequently, electrostatic potentials emerge inside membranes, and membranes respond to external electric fields.

Isogeometric hyperelastic shell analysis with out-of-plane deformation mapping [PDF]
Abstract We derive a hyperelastic shell formulation based on the Kirchhoff–Love shell theory and isogeometric discretization, where we take into account the out-of-plane deformation mapping. Accounting for that mapping affects the curvature term. It also affects the accuracy in calculating the deformed-configuration out-of-plane position, and

Consistency aspects of out-of-plane bending, torsion and shear in a quadratic curved beam element [PDF]
Curved beams in civil engineering applications call for out-of-plane bending and torsion under the action of13; out-of-plane transverse shear loads. The design of a quadratic displacement curved beam element capable of13; representing shear deformation ...

Three-Dimensional Quantification of Cellular Traction Forces and Mechanosensing of Thin Substrata by Fourier Traction Force Microscopy [PDF]
We introduce a novel three-dimensional (3D) traction force microscopy (TFM) method motivated by the recent discovery that cells adhering on plane surfaces exert both in-plane and out-of-plane traction stresses.

Out-of-Plane Elastic Deformation of Triangle Honeycomb
In this research, the equivalent rigidities for the out-of-plane deformation of honeycombs, consisting of triangle cells, were studied theoretically based on the equivalence of strain energy. Honeycombs composed of unsymmetrical cells are anisotropic and the out-of-plane deformation of honeycombs should be expressed by considering six equivalent ...

Phonon sidebands of color centers in hexagonal boron nitride [PDF]
Low temperature photoluminescence spectra of a color center in hexagonal boron nitride are analyzed. The acoustic phonon sideband can be described by a deformation coupling proportional to strain to a phonon bath that is effectively two dimensional.
