Observation and prediction of out-of-plane deformation in CuAlNi

Scripta Materialia, 2008
This paper discusses the out-of-plane deformation caused by stress-induced shape memory phase transformations in CuAlNi. Using three-dimensional optical profilometry, the step-like phase transformation is measured and compared to predictions from the crystallographic theory of martensite.

Assessment of Fuel Cell’s Endplate Out of Plane Deformation Using Digital Image Correlation

2011
The achievement of proper electrochemical performance in proton exchange membrane fuel cells depends on a number of factors, among which the difficulty in obtaining a uniform pressure distribution over the whole fuel cell active area. For a given stacking design, contact pressure levels are usually controlled by selecting an appropriate external ...

Reducing Out-of-Plane Deformation of Soft Robotic Actuators for Stable Grasping

2019 2nd IEEE International Conference on Soft Robotics (RoboSoft), 2019
For grasping (unknown) objects, soft pneumatic actuators are primarily designed to bend towards a specific direction. Due to the flexibility of material and structure, soft actuators are also prone to out-of-plane deformations including twisting and sidewards bending, especially if the loading is asymmetric.

On the out-of-plane deformation of V-shaped micromachined beams

Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 2001
V-shaped beams are widely applied for the suspension of the sensors, fiber holders, and the suspension arms of atomic force microscopes. The performance of the V-shaped beam is highly dependent upon its initial out-of-plane deflection. This paper reports on the exploration of the out-of-plane deformation of V-shaped micromachined beams.

Projection speckle digital correlation for surface out-of-plane deformation measurement

2010 International Symposium on Optomechatronic Technologies, 2010
The paper presents a new study on the method of Projection Speckle Digital Correlation (PSDC) for surface out-of-plane displacement and tilt measurement. Considering that perspective and parallel devices differ substantially in the nature of pattern projection and imaging, four different camera-projector setups are modeled by optical triangulation. Normal Coordinates for the Out-of-Plane Deformations of Vinyl Bromide

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1959
A normal coordinate analysis of the out-of-plane modes of vinyl bromide shows that the description of the 943 cm—1 and 583 cm—1 modes given by Torkington is not entirely correct. The 943 cm—1 mode has a close resemblance to the ethylene type twist and the 583 cm—1 mode may be easily visualized as a wagging motion of the whole vinyl group.

Large Out-of-Plane Deformations of Two-Dimensional Covalent Organic Framework (COF) Sheets

The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, 2018
Flexibility and deformability are important factors influencing the assembly and application of two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D COFs). On one hand, the formation of stable, extended 2D sheets is a prerequisite for the fabrication of high-quality 2D crystals.

The O–D out-of-plane deformation of enolized β-dicarbonyl compounds

J. Chem. Soc. D, 1970
The O–D out-of-plane deformation of enolized β-dicarbonyls is a useful indication of the strength of intramolecular hydrogen-bond systems.
