Local Out-of-Plane Deformation of CFRP Ablator Subjected to Rapid Heating

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society for Composite Materials, 2016
This study investigates local out-of-plane deformation of a carbon fiber reinforced phenolic polymer ablator subjected to very rapid heating. Local out-of-plane deformation was measured using a three-dimensional digital image correlation technique at high temperatures.

Deformation due to the 17 August 1999 Izmit, Turkey, earthquake measured from SPOT images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The geometry of the ruptured areas and the coseismic slip distribution data are key to highlighting the behavior of seismic faults. This information is generally retrieved from field investigations and geodetic measurements or synthetic aperture radar ...

Study of the proton deformation using the Out-Of-Plane Spectrometers

open access: yesHNPS Proceedings, 2020
Nucleon deformation can be studied through electro-excitation to the first nucleon resonance, the Δ+(1232), and quantified through the quadrupole amplitudes in the γ*Ν --> Δ transition. A search for these small amplitudes has been the fo cus of a series of measurements undertaken at Bates-MIT.

Highly deformed $^{40}$Ca configurations in $^{28}$Si + $^{12}$C

open access: yes, 2002
The possible occurrence of highly deformed configurations in the $^{40}$Ca di-nuclear system formed in the $^{28}$Si + $^{12}$C reaction is investigated by analyzing the spectra of emitted light charged particles.

Effects of seabed surface rupture versus buried rupture on tsunami wave modeling:A case study for the 2011 Tohoku, Japan earthquake [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Parametric investigations of tsunami wave modeling are performed to discuss an important issue related to the sensitivity of tsunami simulation results to varied top-edge depths of a shallowly dipping fault plane (seabed surface rupture versus buried ...

Fast full-field out-of-plane deformation measurement using fringe reflectometry

open access: yesOptics and Lasers in Engineering, 2012
Full-field out-of-plane deformation measurement of specular surfaces can be implemented quickly and conveniently using fringe reflectometry. The system configuration is simple and processing is fast. With the assistance of an advanced fringe pattern processing technique, the windowed Fourier ridges method, only a single two-directional fringe pattern ...

Through-thickness permeability modelling of woven fabric under out-of-plane deformation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science, 2014
When a woven fabric is subject to a normal uniform loading, its properties such as tightness and through-thickness permeability are both altered, which relates to the fabric out-of-plane deformation (OPD) and dynamic permeability (DP). In this article, fabric OPD is analytically modelled through an energy minimisation method, and corresponding fabric ...

Electron Spin Relaxation in a Transition-Metal Dichalcogenide Quantum Dot

open access: yes, 2017
We study the relaxation of a single electron spin in a circular quantum dot in a transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayer defined by electrostatic gating.

Submicron Deformation Field Measurements II: Improved Digital Image Correlation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
This is the second paper in a series of three devoted to the applicaiton of Scanning Tunneling Microscopy to mechanics problems. In this paper improvements to the Digital Image Correlation method are outlined, a technique that compares digital images of ...

Fourth order perturbative expansion for the Casimir energy with a slightly deformed plate

open access: yes, 2012
We apply a perturbative approach to evaluate the Casimir energy for a massless real scalar field in 3+1 dimensions, subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions on two surfaces.
