An outbreak of chlamydia infection affecting seven people from a small town in Grampian is described. The origin of the outbreak seemed to be a local pet shop. The article discusses research on the genetics of a strain of chikungunya, a virus carried through mosquitoes affecting people in Asia and Africa. It is suggested that one genetic mutation allowed the virus to spread from the African mosquito to the Asian tiger mosquito and become more of a health risk.
