Evaluation of ACCMIP outgoing longwave radiation from tropospheric ozone using TES satellite observations [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2013
We use simultaneous observations of tropospheric ozone and outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) sensitivity to tropospheric ozone from the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) to evaluate model tropospheric ozone and its effect on OLR simulated by a ...

The Variations of Outgoing Longwave Radiation in East Asia and Its Influencing Factors

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
Outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) data are one of the key factors in studying the radiation balance of the earth–atmosphere system in East Asia. It is of great significance to explore the influence factors on OLR.

Spatial Variability of Albedo and Net Radiation at Local Scale Using UAV Equipped with Radiation Sensors

open access: yesDrones, 2023
Energy balance closure is an important feature in studies of ecosystem exchanges of energy and greenhouse gases using the eddy covariance method. Previous analyses show that this is still a problem with imbalances in the order of 0.6–0.7 to full closure (

Trends in spectrally resolved outgoing longwave radiation from 10 years of satellite measurements

open access: yesnpj Climate and Atmospheric Science, 2021
In recent years, the interest has grown in satellite-derived hyperspectral radiance measurements for assessing the individual impact of climate drivers and their cascade of feedbacks on the outgoing longwave radiation (OLR).

Validation of Near-Real-Time NOAA-20 CrIS Outgoing Longwave Radiation with Multi-Satellite Datasets on Broad Timescales

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
The Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR) package was first developed as a stand-alone application, and then integrated into the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Unique Combined Atmospheric Processing System (NUCAPS) hyperspectral ...

Tropical Outgoing Longwave Radiation and Longwave Cloud Forcing Diurnal Cycles from CERES

open access: yesJournal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 2012
Abstract The diurnal cycle is a fundamental earth system variability driven by daily variations in solar insolation. Understanding diurnal variability is important for characterizing top-of-atmosphere and surface energy budgets. Climatological and seasonal first diurnal cycle harmonics of outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) and longwave ...

Seasonal Characteristics of Mesoscale Convective Systems Over the Philippines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study examines how mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) over the Philippines are most frequent during boreal summer, while those in winter are longer‐lived and more intense due to cold surges and enhanced easterly moisture transport. Intraseasonal oscillations, such as the Madden‐Julian Oscillation (MJO) and the Boreal Summer Intraseasonal ...

Assessment of Outgoing Longwave Radiation using COMS : Cheongmi and Sulma Catchments [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Korea Water Resources Association, 2013
The outgoing longwave radiation (Rlu) for estimation of evapotranspiration is essential to understand energy balance of earth. However, the ground measurement based Rlu has a limitation that the observation can just stand for the exact site, not for an area.

UCanWBGT: urban street canyon heat stress calculation for weather and climate models

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
This work introduces UCanWBGT, a new model to calculate wet‐bulb globe temperature in an urban environment, suitable for use with weather and climate model data. We present the model, then verify its performance against observations made in the streets of Paris during heatwave conditions.
