This study introduces a modular microfluidic platform that connects liver cells with live microbes to mimic key aspects of the gut–liver interaction in steatosis. Using this system, both microbial metabolites and live bacteria significantly reduced fat accumulation in liver cells, but live microbes triggered inflammation and broader metabolic changes ...

Testing hypotheses of the cause of peripheral thinning of the Greenland Ice Sheet: is land-terminating ice thinning at anomalously high rates? [PDF]
Recent observations have shown that the periphery of the Greenland ice sheet (GrIS) is thinning rapidly and that this thinning is greatest around marine-terminating outlet glaciers. Several theories have been proposed which provide a link between climate

A 72-year-old woman presented with a 6-month history of a dull, epigastric pain, 10-kg weight loss (from 52 kg to 42 kg), and a 6- to 8-week history of nausea and vomiting. Physical examination showed no notable abnormalities. Blood test results revealed anemia (hemoglobin 9.8 g/dL [to convert to grams per liter, multiply by 10]) but were otherwise ...

A high‐resolution 3D‐printed tumor‐on‐a‐chip platform sustains breast cancer tissues at in vivo–like cell densities through vascular‐like perfusion. This engineered system recapitulates grade‐dependent molecular features and exhibits drug‐resistance profiles that uniquely align with clinically relevant Cmax values.

Portable Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Sensor for Rapid Swab‐Based Detection of Norovirus
This work reports a rapid, portable smartphone‐based sensor capable of detecting four norovirus genotypes from swab samples within 15 min. Sensor selectivity was validated through evaluation against four common live viruses. The swab‐based sampling process enabled simple sample preparation combined with the compact detection system, supporting use of ...

Tomographic Printing in a Chip: A Versatile Platform for Biomimetic 3D Organ‐on‐Chip
A novel light‐based bioprinting approach, TVAM‐in‐a‐chip, enables rapid, contactless fabrication of biomimetic 3D organ‐on‐chip devices directly within preassembled microfluidic platforms. This strategy supports diverse materials, including cell‐laden resins, and eliminates post‐assembly steps.

A microfluidic device with magnetic microposts was used to assess platelet mechanobiology. The oscillatory actuation of posts with embedded iron particles was dampened by the dynamic stiffening of the platelet‐rich plugs. This stiffening process increased with applied load, but inhibiting platelet activation (ASA) or myosin contractility (blebbistatin)

Transition metal oxy/carbo‐nitrides show great promise as catalysts for sustainable processes. A Mn‐Mo mixed‐metal oxynitride attains remarkable performance for the direct synthesis of acetonitrile, an important commodity chemical, via sequential C─N and C─C coupling from syngas (C1) and ammonia (N1) feedstocks.
