Physiological Measurement, 1994A high output impedance current source was required for electrical impedance tomography (EIT) applications capable of operating up to 200 kHz. The architecture is based on operational-amplifier power-supply current sensing and produces a predominantly capacitive output impedance, which for the design presented is approximately 1.2 pF.

Compared to the traditional solution, which exhibits unbalanced operation, the proposed ones exploit an auxiliary high-gain feedback loop which provides differential drive, thereby highly improving the common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR).

The current-output fluxgate may be tuned by using a serial capacitor. Such tuning increases the sensor sensitivity in the situation when the pick-up coil has a low number of turns. We achieved a signal/feedthrough ratio improvement by a factor of 5. The measured parameters fit the simplified theoretical model within 20% deviation.
