Output gap determinants in Ethiopia [PDF]

open access: yesCogent Economics & Finance, 2021
The output gap measured as the percentage deviation of actual output from its potential level is an indicator of an economy’s achievement. Output gap has been an important concept used for forming of policies.

The reliability of Canadian output-gap estimates [PDF]

open access: yesThe North American Journal of Economics and Finance, 2004
Abstract Recent work on policy rules under uncertainty has highlighted the impact of output-gap measurement errors on economic outcomes and their importance in the formulation of appropriate policy rules. This paper investigates the reliability of current estimates of the output gap in Canada.

Real-Time Representations of the Output Gap [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Economics and Statistics, 2008
Methods are described for the appropriate use of data obtained and analysed in real time to represent the output gap. The methods employ cointegrating VAR techniques to model real-time measures and realizations of output series jointly. The model is used to mitigate the impact of data revisions; to generate appropriate forecasts that can deliver ...

Modelling Italian Potential Output and the Output Gap [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2010
The aim of the paper is to estimate a reliable quarterly time-series of potential output for the Italian economy, exploiting four alternative approaches: a Bayesian unobserved component method, a univariate time-varying autoregressive model, a production function approach and a structural VAR.

Financial Globalization, Output Gap and Foreign Output Gap on inflation: Evidenced from Developing Economies

open access: yesJournal of Accounting and Finance in Emerging Economies, 2021
This paper covers previous studies' deficiencies and re-examine the theoretical model using a heterogeneous panel GMM technique, which overcomes cross-section dependency.

Measuring Output Gap [PDF]

open access: yesIMF Working Papers, 2020
We apply a range of models to the U.K. data to obtain estimates of the output gap. A structural VAR with an appropriate identification strategy provides improved estimates of output gap with better real time properties and lower sensitivity to temporary shocks than the usual filtering techniques.

Global and local components of output gaps

open access: yesEmpirical Economics, 2023
AbstractThis paper proposes a multi-level dynamic factor model to identify common components in output gap estimates. We pool multiple estimates for 157 countries and decompose them into one global, eight regional, and 157 country-specific cycles. Our approach easily deals with mixed frequencies, ragged edges, and discontinuities in the underlying ...

Bayesian analysis of output gap in Barbados

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Central Banking, 2020
This article contributes to understanding the performance of various unobserved components (UC) models in fitting Barbados’ real GDP. Relying on recent UC models techniques, it finds support for the UC model that captures correlated disturbances, but not
