Optimal Coordination of Dual Setting Directional Over Current Relays in Microgrid With Different Standard Relay Characteristics

2020 IEEE 9th Power India International Conference (PIICON), 2020
In the presence of distributed generation (DG), the fault current through the relay in forward direction is higher as compared to reverse direction. Thus it is desirable to have dual setting directional over current relay (DOCR) which can operate for both forward and reverse direction of fault current with two independent relay settings.

Application of linear programming for optimal coordination of directional over-current relays

2012 9th International Conference on Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2012
In this paper presents an algorithm for directional over-current relay coordination based on linear programming. The relays are configured by adjusting time dial setting (TDS) of function properly in normal and fault conditions. The TDS adjustment is performed by using linear programming.

Implementation of Directional Over-current Relay Coordination Approaches in Electrical Networks

Electric Power Components and Systems, 2015
AbstractAs the smart grid concept is employed in the electric power system, network load flow and topology changes intensively to meet the best generation-demand balancing point. These changes must account for protection devices to enhance their performance.

A New Objective Function for Optimal Coordination of Directional Over-current Relays

2020
This paper presents a novel objective function to obtain the optimum relay settings of directional over-current relays (DOCRs). The proposed improved objective function (IOF) is developed to solve the problems of previously proposed OFs. The proposed research work modifies the previous OFs by introducing a new weighting factor and adding a new term ...

Optimal coordination of over current relay using opposition learning-based gravitational search algorithm

The Journal of Supercomputing, 2021
In this paper, the optimum coordination of over current relay in distribution system has been performed. The time dial setting (TDS) of over current relay is optimized by minimizing total operating time of relays. As the power system is a complex and highly interconnected, the complexity may be occurred in calculating optimum relay coordination time ...

Protection of microgrid through coordinated directional over-current relays

2014 IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference - South Asia Satellite (GHTC-SAS), 2014
Microgrids integrate distributed energy resources to provide reliable, environment friendly and economic power to small/medium sized urban communities or to large rural areas. Due to the existence of generators at all levels of the distribution system and two distinct operating modes, i.e.

Optimal coordination of directional over-current relays using informative differential evolution algorithm

Journal of Computational Science, 2014
Abstract Growing interconnection in distribution system creates new problem for protection engineers. Particularly the design of overcurrent relay coordination in such system is an independent area of research. With the availability of new artificial based optimization algorithm relay coordination research gain a new momentum.

Non-adaptive over current relay coordination in distribution systems

2014 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES), 2014
Over current relay coordination in a meshed distribution system with multiple distributed renewable energy sources (RES) is a very challenging for the protection engineers. The exiting over current relays in the distribution system is set for some predefined network topology and fault currents.

Adaptive over current relay coordination algorithm for changing short circuit fault levels

2015 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT ASIA), 2015
Fault levels are continuously changing in the electric networks due to change in the network impendences and configurations. These changes causes maloperation of the over current relays. An over current relay coordination algorithm is proposed in this paper, which utilizes adaptive fuzzy technique to select the optimal relay settings.

Study on Protection Coordination of a Flux-Lock Type SFCL With Over-Current Relay

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 2010
In this paper, the method for the protection coordination of a flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) with an over-current relay (OCR) was proposed. Immediately after the fault happens, the fault current can be limited by the flux-lock type SFCL and, if the fault continues, can be interrupted by the circuit breaker (CB) after ...
