Air Pollution Dispersion over Durban, South Africa

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2022
Air pollution dispersion over Durban is studied using satellite, reanalysis and in situ measurements. This coastal city of 4 million people located on the east coast of South Africa contributes 29 million T/yr of trace gases, mostly from transport and ...

A new over-dispersed count model

open access: yes, 2023
A new two-parameter discrete distribution, namely the PoiG distribution is derived by the convolution of a Poisson variate and an independently distributed geometric random variable. This distribution generalizes both the Poisson and geometric distributions and can be used for modelling over-dispersed as well as equi-dispersed count data.

Handling over-dispersion of performance indicators [PDF]

open access: yesQuality and Safety in Health Care, 2005
A problem can arise when a performance indicator shows substantially more variability than would be expected by chance alone, since ignoring such "over-dispersion" could lead to a large number of institutions being inappropriately classified as "abnormal".

Nonparametric Bayes modeling of count processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Data on count processes arise in a variety of applications, including longitudinal, spatial and imaging studies measuring count responses. The literature on statistical models for dependent count data is dominated by models built from hierarchical ...

Basic Features of the Analysis of Germination Data with Generalized Linear Mixed Models

open access: yesData, 2020
Germination data are discrete and binomial. Although analysis of variance (ANOVA) has long been used for the statistical analysis of these data, generalized linear mixed models (GzLMMs) provide a more consistent theoretical framework. GzLMMs are suitable

Prediction of Ross River virus incidence in Queensland, Australia: building and comparing models [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2022
Transmission of Ross River virus (RRV) is influenced by climatic, environmental, and socio-economic factors. Accurate and robust predictions based on these factors are necessary for disease prevention and control.

Log-Normal or Over-Dispersed Poisson? [PDF]

open access: yesRisks, 2018
Although both over-dispersed Poisson and log-normal chain-ladder models are popular in claim reserving, it is not obvious when to choose which model. Yet, the two models are obviously different. While the over-dispersed Poisson model imposes the variance to mean ratio to be common across the array, the log-normal model assumes the same for the standard

A New Three-Parameter Discrete Distribution With Associated INAR(1) Process and Applications

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
The aim of this article is to propose a new three-parameter discrete Lindley distribution. A wide range of its structural properties are investigated.

Can Generalized Poisson model replace any other count data models? An evaluation

open access: yesClinical Epidemiology and Global Health, 2021
Background: Count data represents the number of occurrences of an event within a fixed period of time. In count data modelling, overdispersion is inevitable.

Non-parametric Bayesian modelling of digital gene expression data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Next-generation sequencing technologies provide a revolutionary tool for generating gene expression data. Starting with a fixed RNA sample, they construct a library of millions of differentially abundant short sequence tags or "reads", which constitute a
