Alveolar and skeletal dimensions associatedwith overbite

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1998
The aim of this study was to investigate whether in the maxilla and in the mandible the structure of the anterior medial sagittal alveolar and basal bone is related to the overbite. A total of 460 untreated adult subjects were divided into four groups with either deep bite, normal overbite, end-to-end bite, or open bite and were compared. The overbite,

Stability of deep overbite correction

The European Journal of Orthodontics, 1983
Plaster models and lateral skull radiographs of 26 orthodontically treated deep overbite cases were analysed before and after treatment and 5–9 years out of rentention. The mean age at the follow-up examination was approximately 22 years. The desired incisor relationship was achieved in the long term in 24 of the cases.

Correction of deep overbite

Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, 1989
Summary The use of a modified splint in the surgical-orthodontic treatment of Class II deep overbite deformities is presented. The splint permits a reduction of the preoperative orthodontic treatment-time because hardly any (time consuming) levelling of the dental arch is indicated while the time of postoperative orthodontic treatment is shortened ...

The deep overbite: prevention of trauma

British Dental Journal, 1990
An understanding of the mechanisms by which deep overbite trauma develops will allow interception at an early age of those cases most at risk. Measures may then be taken to prevent progression to the stage where treatment becomes difficult.

Overbite Correction and Smile Aesthetics

Seminars in Orthodontics, 2005
Achievement of optimum smile aesthetics during orthodontic treatment has recently been the focus of several published articles in the orthodontic literature. Authors speculate that overbite correction, specifically maxillary incisor intrusion, will lead to flattening of the smile arc and consequently reduce smile attractiveness.

[Intercepting overbite].

L' Orthodontie francaise, 2016
Overbite appears when neither the interposition of soft tissue nor end-to-end occlusion of anterior teeth succeeds in arresting the natural continuous eruption of incisor teeth. In Class II, division 2 malocclusions during movements of propulsion and of the lateral occlusion, end-to-end incisal relationships are blocked by

CORRECTION OF DEEP OVERBITE IN ADULTS

Dental Clinics of North America, 1997
Deep overbite is one of the most common features of adult malocclusions. Treatment of deep overbites involves a careful diagnosis, treatment plan, and mechanics plan. Pure intrusion of upper or lower incisors alone or in combination with flaring and extrusion of posterior teeth are common methods to correct deep overbites.

Mandibular bicanine width relative to overbite

American Journal of Orthodontics, 1969
Abstract This investigation involved a study of mandibular bicanine width and its relation to the overbite. The material for the study consisted of eighty-three treated cases of Class 11, Division 1 malocclusion. Overbite and mandibular bicanine width measurements were made from study models representing pre treatment, end-of-treatment, and ...

The traumatic anterior overbite.

Dental update, 1998
The position of the anterior teeth and skeletal base relationship establish many of our facial characteristics, yet these same tooth positions can result in a range of dental problems that are often specific for a particular incisal relationship.

Management of deep incisor overbite

2022
A normal incisor overbite is important for incising food, but also allows anterior guidance and disclusion of the posterior dentition in anterior excursion, which may help protect the posterior teeth from tooth wear and cuspal fracture. Deep incisor overbite problems may result either from an upward and forward rotation of the mandible during growth ...
