Overbite—the dentist’s challenge

The Journal of the American Dental Association, 1969
Various factors contribute to the problem of overbite and treatment necessarily involves more than the tooth system alone. The postural relationship of the mandible with associated structures must be considered because this postural position is the starting point for mastication, deglutition, respiration, and speech.

The deep overbite: prevention of trauma

British Dental Journal, 1990
An understanding of the mechanisms by which deep overbite trauma develops will allow interception at an early age of those cases most at risk. Measures may then be taken to prevent progression to the stage where treatment becomes difficult.

Traumatic Overbite: A Restorative Solution

Dental Update, 2002
Deep overbite is frequently seen in the adult dentition. Although the condition is usually asymptomatic, certain factors may lead to the development of deep traumatic overbite, and in partially dentate patients loss of posterior occlusal support may be a contributory factor.

Stability of deep overbite correction

The European Journal of Orthodontics, 1983
Plaster models and lateral skull radiographs of 26 orthodontically treated deep overbite cases were analysed before and after treatment and 5–9 years out of rentention. The mean age at the follow-up examination was approximately 22 years. The desired incisor relationship was achieved in the long term in 24 of the cases.

CORRECTION OF DEEP OVERBITE IN ADULTS

Dental Clinics of North America, 1997
Deep overbite is one of the most common features of adult malocclusions. Treatment of deep overbites involves a careful diagnosis, treatment plan, and mechanics plan. Pure intrusion of upper or lower incisors alone or in combination with flaring and extrusion of posterior teeth are common methods to correct deep overbites.

Alveolar and skeletal dimensions associatedwith overbite

American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, 1998
The aim of this study was to investigate whether in the maxilla and in the mandible the structure of the anterior medial sagittal alveolar and basal bone is related to the overbite. A total of 460 untreated adult subjects were divided into four groups with either deep bite, normal overbite, end-to-end bite, or open bite and were compared. The overbite,

Deep overbite correction by intrusion

American Journal of Orthodontics, 1977
Not all patients with deep overbite should be treated with the same mechanics. Some patients require intrusion of the anterior teeth, while others require primarily extrusion. This article has discussed the principles of incisor and canine intrusion and has demonstrated the use of intrusion springs that are capable of intruding incisors with minimal ...
