Overburden Pressures Exerted on Clay Liners

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 1986
The range of overburden pressures induced on compacted clay liners beneath landfills, surface impoundments, and waste piles is documented, and loading pressures for consolidometer hydraulic conductivity testing of a compacted clay sample is suggested.

Porewater Pressures Due to Overburden Removal

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1983
A mathematical model describing the behavior of a fully saturated sediment subjected to a uniformly eroding load is developed on the basis of Terzaghi's classical consolidation theory. The model is used to analyze simultaneous generation and dissipation of deficient pore water pressures.

Capillary Pressure Characteristics at Overburden Pressure Using the Centrifuge Method

SPE Gas Technology Symposium, 1993
ABSTRACT This paper contrasts the results of centrifuge capillary pressure measurements determined at ambient and overburden pressures. The effects of centrifugal forces and overburden pressure on the integrity of well consolidated uniform rock samples are minimal.

Gas-Water Capillary Pressure in Coal at Various Overburden Pressures

Society of Petroleum Engineers Journal, 1976
Abstract Drainage air-water capillary-pressure curves were obtained for Pittsburgh and Pocahontas coals at various overburden pressures. Capillary-pressure data were used to investigate pore-size characteristics.

The Effect of Overburden Pressure on Relative Permeability

Middle East Oil Show, 1987
ABSTRACT In routine core analysis, porosity and permeability, both relative and absolute, are measured on rock samples which are not under net overburden (confining) pressure. Using these data to predict reservoir performance or estimate reserves can lead to serious errors since all reservoirs are under net overburden pressure.

Effect of overburden pressure on liquefaction resistance of sand

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1994
The effect of overburden pressure on liquefaction resistance of sand is studied and results of a site-specific investigation are presented. When estimating liquefaction resistance of sand from the indirect approach using the chart suggested by Seed et al.
