Overcurrent protection of distribution network with distributed generation

2015 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT ASIA), 2015
Penetration of distributed generation (DG) into the distribution network has changed the nature of conventional power distribution system, which was radial in nature. Power flow is now bidirectional and thus the increased penetration of DGs imposes a challenge on the conventional protection scheme which is only meant for passive distribution network ...

Generator Backup Overcurrent Protection

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1982
A concern that the characteristics and correct application of the generator backup relay are misunderstood is addressed in this report to the Power Systems Protection Committee. It is inherently a secure device, and rarely has the opportunity to operate in its intended capacity. So the question was asked, ``Do generator backup overcurrent relays really

Overcurrent protective device coordination by computer

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1982
Overcurrent protective device coordination is defined, and the advantages of computerizing this process are explained. A computer program written by the authors, who are engineers responsible for performing coordination studies, is discussed. The program was written with emphasis on engineering flexibility.

Overcurrent and earth fault protection

1993
Fuses are a very satisfactory form of protection for the lower voltage and current sections of power networks because their operating time/current characteristics are similar in form to the withstand time/current characteristics of the circuits they protect.

Electronic Fuse Overcurrent Protection

2005/2006 PES TD, 2006
The use of fuse save schemes to avoid sustained outages due to temporary faults is well known in the utility industry. The scheme is limited in application due to fault current levels fuse speeds and relay-breaker speeds. This paper describes application of electronic sectionalizers to overcome these limitations and the results of implementation of ...

Aspects of overcurrent protection for feeders and motors

Proceedings of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Conference, 1994
This paper discusses the coordination of the characteristics and the backup and redundancy possible with microprocessor relays. The paper reviews the application of negative sequence overcurrent characteristics for unbalanced protection in motors and also covers the rules for coordination of negative sequence characteristics to provide sensitive phase ...

Transformer Overcurrent Protection???a Ten-Point View

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1982
A rapid analysis can be made of overcurrent protection with current magnitudes at only ten points in the time domain using a digital computer with graphics capability. Benefits of this approach include a convenient visual representation and permanent record of the particular application being studied.

DC overcurrent protection-Where we stand

Conference Record of the 1992 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 1993
The procedures used to determine the DC ratings for fuses and the issues pertinent to ensuring a proper DC fuse application are discussed. For a better understanding of how fuses are rated for DC, Underwriters Laboratories UL Standard 198L is examined.

A time-delay transformer for overcurrent protection

1976 IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference, 1976
A novel saturated time-delay transformer is connected in series with the dc load. The transformer detects and limits overcurrent until the fault has been corrected or the power source removed. This transformer design can be used at any voltage level however, the paper describes it in conjunction with high voltage (HV) circuits.
