Overcurrent relay coordination by evolutionary programming
Electric Power Systems Research, 2000Abstract This paper presents a novel optimization technique based on evolutionary programming for overcurrent (OC) relay coordination in ring fed distribution networks. Since the problem has multi-optimum points, ordinary mathematical based optimization techniques will fail.

A new one-cycle directional overcurrent relay
Electrical Engineering, 1943This paper describes a new one-cycle directional overcurrent relay which is not limited in its application by lack of contact co-ordination. That contact coordination is important is indicated by the many incorrect relay operations which have been traced to the common practice of adding instantaneous attachment to directional overcurrent relays.

Testing dynamic characteristics of overcurrent relays
IEEE WESCANEX 93 Communications, Computers and Power in the Modern Environment - Conference Proceedings, 2002Test methods for determining the dynamic characteristics of an overcurrent relay are discussed. By dynamics is meant the response of the relay to a current of varying magnitude. The test method, originated by IREQ, is used by Hydro Quebec to determine the ability of new relays to coordinate with the installed base of induction relays.

ANN based directional overcurrent relay
2001 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition. Developing New Perspectives (Cat. No.01CH37294), 2002This paper describes the design and development of an ANN based novel directional overcurrent relay. A multi-layer feedforward neural network (FFNN) trained with the error backpropagation algorithm has been developed to realize this relay. The ANN based algorithm is off line tested using different simulation equations for overcurrent and voltage under ...

Microcomputer-based multiple overcurrent relays
Computers in Industry, 1993Abstract This paper presents an application of the most recent modern technology to implement overcurrent relaying functions in a power system. A microprocessor-based single and multiple overcurrent relays have been reported. In this work it is shown that a microcomputer in conjunction with an interface board can be economically used to develop a ...

Design of a microprocessor-based overcurrent relay
[Proceedings] WESCANEX '91, 2002The authors describe the design of a microprocessor-based overcurrent relay that is suitable for protecting distribution and subtransmission networks. A modified technique for modeling the time-current characteristics is described. The proposed design is implemented using a Texas Instruments TMS320C25 digital signal processor.

Overcurrent relays coordination for commercial building
2013 IEEE 7th International Power Engineering and Optimization Conference (PEOCO), 2013This paper presents an overcurrent relays coordination study for an 11 kV commercial building in southern Malaysia. Nevertheless, the actual study that covers the overcurrent relays, earth fault relays and earth leakage relays were executed by providing optimum and functionable relay settings prior to commissioning of the building.

Directional Overcurrent Relaying (67) Concepts
59th Annual Conference for Protective Relay Engineers, 2006., 2006Directional overcurrent relaying (67) refers to relaying that can use the phase relationship of voltage and current to determine direction to a fault. There are a variety of concepts by which this task is done. This paper will review the mainstream methods by which 67 type directional decisions are made by protective relays.
